A question for those with an external gate, do you need a section of flexible pipe (as used on FWD cars) in the wastegate pipe to cope with the thermal shock when the gate opens?
u will see on a few of the high profile cars from melb that that have used flexi/convoluted(sp) pipe
i think exchaser has a few fotos that will prove it
yeh and i think its a very good idea !
not so much from the shock of the gate opening, but more so from the shaking and vibrating the gate takes from being attached to the exhaust of the car..
think about how ur exhust moves around a bit under the car and the strain it puts through the screamer pipe which is attched to the exhaust up to the gate... and then onto the gate.... having a bit of 'flex' as its called in the pipe (bout 150mm long) should be enough to dampen out any shocks that come through.
this is more important issue for those who have gates welded to the stock vl manifold.. (as it can be a bit of a weak point)
valid point exchaser.
my exhaust barely moves.its almost solid mounted and my engine barely moves either so i have never had a problem.if your exhaust hangs from the stock style rubbers you might though
