I will be doing (yet) another engine conversion this january to the old vk. The engine of choice this time will be a nissan rb20det out of a nissan 32 skyline with the 5 speed gearbox behind it.. Some people say go for the rb25 as it has more torque and greater driveability but the reality is is that I can't afford the expense of the rb25 and hassels that go with it (plus i'm getting an rb20 for an incredibly cheap price ) Now for the nitty gritty part... I'll be using a vl crossmember and kframe which should bolt straight into my engine bay and then I will be able to bolt the rb20 straight onto this. With the gearbox can I use any of the following and how strong are they?? Vl 5spd (mx7) rb20det 5 spd or rb25de 5 spd...? Regarding the Gearbox crossmember will the vl one bolt straight up or will a custom item need to be fabricated? Tailshaft wise again will I be bale to use a (shortened or lengthened) vl item or does it need to be custom ($$$$)? Wiring shouldn't be too hard as I have a 32det service manual but if anyones done it before i'm willing to pay for your services... I think thats all for now but i know there will be more questions down the track... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I be going RB25DET with R33 5 speed way better than a MX7! You need a VN cross member for the R33 gearbox,Plus your tailshaft needs to modified to suit

nothing wrong with rb20 itll be a mad conversion once done , much better than the buick in there now as for gearbox's . the ones u listed are basically about the same quality wise , slightly different gearing though , so choose which ever u want. as rubin said, a vn auto crossmember can be used , but u just need to elongate a hole and all is good. tailshaft - $400 will get u what u need , done by hardy spicer Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

any parts you need ring the castlemain rod shop - he knows what to do and will fabricate anything that guy could fabricate a starving money to a rb30 block.

the only thing you really need to do other than whats ben mentioned, is change the diff ratio ( if you started with a late model VK it should have a borg warner the same as the vl's in it.) with the rb20, you would probalby be best off with a 4.11

Yeah I have a borg warner in it with 3.23 gearing but I would definatly switch to 4.11 Also The rb gearbox's use a hydrolic clutch don't they? Will I need a vl pedal box or can I retain the vk one?

it might be worth checking out if you can adapt the VL clutch master cylnder up to the vk pedal. failing that, jsut use a VL one, if you can find one.
