Hi, I was wondering if the R31 gearbox of a skyline (rb30) is the same as the N/A VL one?
Would the gearbox fit straight in to a VL?
Thanx.

Yes, its the same gearbox.
It will bolt straight in.

Off topic sort of but is it true that the R31 has better injectors then the VL due to competition between Skyline and VL even tho having same engine, gearbox etc.

they are not the same box.... but will bolt up. skyline box are meant to be slightly better i believe... the NA ones anyway...

They are not the same box.
The skyline has different ratio's. I had my box rebuilt with an R31 cluster and 5th gear isn't quite as long as it use to be. However my car uses less fuel on the highway now. The skyline box will bolt into a VL but be aware that the ratio for 5th is different.

R32 gearbox are suitable for VL turbos and are very strong really when compared to a NA 5 spd box or even teh MX7 box... many people have seen R32 boxes hold up very well behind teh RB30!

the s3 skylines use a totally different box which is pretty much the same (electronic) box as in the R32/R33 and i think other nissan cars too.

08-10-04, 08:51 GMT+10#13 what if u were going to put in an rb25 eventually, and u wanted to buy all the other parts and put them in, so u could jst drop the engine right? gearbox, exhaust, tailshaft, diff, etc? so if u got all that done, then saved for the engine and jst dropped it right in?

Aren't those R33 GTST boxes similar to GTR boxes minus the front wheel drive transfer case? I heard the same thing though, those R33 Manual boxes can take one hell of a beating.
Quiet Uter! You can't just put thing like zorsts from different cars on to a VL, even if the engine fits, ya goose.
