Hi guys i was just wondering because im doing a turbo conversion and ive spent quite a bit of money on my turbo if it is ok to run the standard n/a rb30 oil pump using a turbo i heard u have to upgrade to a vlt or better becuase it promotes shorter bearing life any help will be appreciated

man dont be crazy upgrade it you will starve your cams tappets of oil pressure due to the addition of a turbo so upgrade it bro.

If my oil pump promoted shorter bearing life I'd want my money back!

Theres plenty of people who are running around with NA oil pumps, who will tell you their motors run fine.
But don't say you weren't warned!
Nissan changed the oil pump on the turbo's for obvious reasons.

if u have them time quick31, then get a vlt or rb25/26 oil pump , it is a wise move

yer sounds very true wot you guys are saying, i might of got use guys confused the n/a oil pump is suppose to promote shorter bearing life but i now heaps of guys that are running the n/a pumps and have done over 150,000 ks on their setups and still going strong

A new oil pump costs less than an engine rebuild. And it's a lot less ****ing around too.

i know of a few guys running around with the stock n/a oil pump with turbos on, doesnt worry them.
im doing an N/a to turbo conversion on my calais too, personally im going to stick with the n/a pump for now, will probably upgrade to an RB25 item if i start chasing bigger numbers. (i presume they bolt straight on?)

the difference in oil pumps is quite small, and honestly, the manufature didnt change everything for a reason, look at the Turbo plenum..
i can see no honest reason why its in use.
there have been some pretty fast turbo's that run the complete NA motor and lived fine until the boost was wound up to stupid levels.
if you arent talking aobut a 9 sec motor and a huge mofo turbo, it will be fine.
the oil pump has a pressure relief valve in it, and the extra demand of the turbo will just mean that less is directed out the relief valve.

16-10-04, 12:16 GMT+10#10 If your going to slap a turbo kit and run a mild setup then stick with the N/A pump. Some engines could have failed for other reasons instead of oil starvation but hte owners blamed it on that.
N/A -> Turbo setups have been running for a long time with equal reliability as the RB30ET, but they were not abuse and were treated with respect.
I wouldnt change the oil pump unless you were keen on rebuilding the engine and doing everything properly (very expensive) but if your confident that your engine is healthy then the n/a oil pump will suffice.
If you blow an n/a engine, $300 bucks for a long motor and your back in business!
