Hey guys.
This gonna be hard to explain.. but please bare with me...
Just put in a new cooler (nizpro style) so had to ditch the stock clutch fan (not enough room).
Put in this fan, which was supplied by the old owner, (not complaining about it), got the bolts on tight but the Black cover (that the belt is on) has a bit of play in it, which is causing the ticking (i'm about 99% sure).
Now, the fan and that spacer is on as tight as it can go, any tighter and i'll be strectching the bolts. The problem is the plate (one that the belt is on) that sits between the spacer/fan and the shaft/plate that actually spins..
Any ideas? here's a quick pick.
If not i'll have to go for a set of AU twin thermo's, which i don't wanna do.. yet.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
it could maybe be the bearings in it.. not sure if that one has it or what but yeah..
coz the aircon pully on my exec was ticking away took the belt off it and it stopped ticking but when you spin it with ya hand you can hear the bearings in it and they sound pretty much stuffed.. but yeah it could be anything that is making it tick..
anyways hope that helps you out mate...
so it pretty much only ticks when the fan is turning?? hmmm very werid if you ask me...
maybe its the fan itself... its a long shot but who knows as i said before could be anything.....
if only the clutch fan would fit on!!!

yeah long bolts. you can see where i've alread tried packing it with washers (blue circle) and the bolts run along the green line, where they screw into the back plate. I've also thrown on some bolts at the back (green circle, can't see them) don't really do much but i thought i'd add them in.
so there is no thread on the spacer? just a hole that the bolt goes through right.if thats the case then it will pull tight when bolted up.unless the bolts are hitting the water pump at all? take the belt off and spin it by hand to check if anything is hitting as it rotates
if that dont work id say maybe the spacer doesnt have enough clearance for the front of the water pump{as ive marked in yellow}.
this would make it bolt up tight but leave the pulley loose
nah no thread in the spacer... and nah, they don't hit the water pump... you can actually have your finger on it and try twist the fan, the back stays still, but the fan/plate the belt sits on) slowly goes from side to side.... i'll pull it all apart this week or the weekend and see what it is.. unless some one has had this prob before and fixed it somehow.
Thanks.
Hey Steve,
I'm 95% sure you have the washers in the wrong place.
From memory I had the washers as per duz360 first diagram. He has the red arrow pointing between the black bit and the spacer.
They are hard to get in there but is possible, Jimmy and I figured it out as the fan was loose like you described.
Let me know how it goes
BTW those pics didn't work in the PM you sent

Hmm...... i'll give it a go.. never even thought of that..... you could have told me when i got it off ya

yeah. the red bit here represents the front of the pump. you might not have any clearance there.{blue arrow}
you can test it by putting the washers between the pulley and the spacer{red arrow}
