ok guys i know **** all about diffs. I have used the search and got a rough idea of what i want but a few questions i know they have probably been asked before. I have a 28 spline lsd diff 1. i am changing 3.08 gears to 3.9 gears is it hard to put them in i have a mates dad (a mechanic) that might be able to do it but i have been quoted about 600 from diff places also been quoted 1400 if i want the bearings and stuff done too 2. are gears on a single spinner the same as lsd or doesnt it matter??? so could i get like gears from a pintara or something and chuck em in my diff? as i said i know nothing about diffs thanks Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

1. The thing is that you have to pull the whole centre out in order to remove the crown and pinion, then obviously you need t put it all back together again, the centre needs to be setup properly. I'd also recommend using a rattle gun to remove the pinion from the diff, and don't mix the shims up! 2. The gears are compatible with both an open wheeler and an LSD of the same type, i.e, 28 spline. There is a thread about putting Pintara gears into a VL and I believe it can be done. Basically, it's not much of a hassle removing everything, it's the putting back in part that can be a b!tch, and then setting it up correctly. Also, going from 3.08 to 3.9 is a huge jump, do you realise what that will do to your top end?

sorry i dont want to hijack the thread but whilst we are on this topic, does anyone know what would be the difference in engine revs in 5th gear at 100km/h between normal 3.45 ratio and 3.9 and 4.11. I am thinking of changing ratios when i get my diff rebuilt soon and am wondering whether to go 3.9 or 4.11.

yeah im changing my 3.45 to 4.11 in my n/a 25 spline diff, according to the bloke at the wreckers it is very critical to get it shimmed up properly other wise you will blow it very easily

would you know what the rev difference is?

i would say with 4.11 @ 100km/h you would be reving at 3500rpm

ok, i shall try this theory, i dont know if it is correct or not so we will see. In 4th gear (i shall use fourth as it is 1:1 ratio) my car revs at 2800rpm at 100km/h and 3050rpm at 110km/h So if i change the gear ratio from 3.45:1 to 3.9:1 then the ratio will have an increase of 13.04% so 2800 rpm + 13.04% of 2800rpm = 3165.12. and 3050rpm + 13.04% of 3050rpm = 3447.72 Therefore at 110km/h the revs will go from 2800 to 3165rpm and at 110km/h the revs will go from 3050 to 3447rpm. (in fourth gear) I guess you would see a similar increase in fifth gear. I dont know if i worked this out properly what do you guys reckon would this be correct?
