yeah that happened to me once before when i was doing bout 140km/h, the whole ass end off the car locked up and skidded off to the side of the highway. There was minimal damage except to the inside of the mag, which had deep grooves in it from the disc rotor. Actually it wasnt too bad, except that it was 2:30 in the morning and bout 250km from nearest town. It was on my way back from schoolies a few years ago But thats a lesson learnt now.

Sounds like the wheel nuts were all loose causing the wheel to move around and break the studs

i've seen that a few times before and it is usually caused either by loose wheel nuts or by overtightening the wheel nuts and fractuing the studs.

Ive seen a few studs snap off, rust lines showing they were cracked for ages, ive been told wratle guns may be the cause of the fractures

bloody rattle guns hate em with a passion, I cringe every time I see a mechanic or a tyre joint putting rims back on with a rattle gun! Broken so many of my wheel studs, plus you can't get the fcukers off once they've been rattled on Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i know of 2 people who had their wheel studs break and the wheel come off. they were both giving their cars a bit of stick. first guy was up at toorbul/donnybrooke years ago when there used to be racing up there he was giving his old hx a good going over after some of the guys up there gave him sh1t about his "dads" car with the roll cage in it. so he kicked everyone out of his car and launched past everyone, left wheel in the air raced off, chirped every gear (was a manual), turned back same deal, looked at everyone laughed at them and drove off. once back on the highway the car started to shake real bad so he pulled over in time to see his wheel roll off into the drain on the side of the road. 2nd guy, same place, about 2 mths back, just bought himself a nice big dollar big blocked HQ. was practicing his launching and driving abilities with the car. about a half hour of this he was doing about 140 kph when his rear right wheel shot off into the bushes. the car went into a spin and eventually stopped on the edge of the road. lucky guy, plus his 3 passengers. took them about an hour to find the wheel and some nasty damage to the rear quarter, brake drum and fuel tank. so my question is, "were you giving it a bit of stick before the wheel come off?"
