Start your engines, The Rare Spares SpringNats 12 is just around the corner. One of the biggest weekends on the Australian event calendar is about to get bigger with Rare Spares joining the party. On the weekend of November 26, 27 and 28, 2004, Rare Spares expects to help over 60,000 spectators enjoy the exhaust fumes, screaming tyres and the smell of freshly burnt rubber.

The cops have fair fcked things up but it will still be a decent event.. even if you only go to watch the burnouts!

Hi guys I was reading thorugh these replys to my orginal post and most of the comments are very encouraging, others not so encouraging. I talked to Les Adams; Springnats Organiser to see what he had to say in reply to some of the more negative comments, the following is his response.
"I can understand some of the comments BUT HOW SOON DO WE FORGET! Does anyone remember the guy that was run over on the streets of shepparton by a truck a few years ago? The events leading up to his death were a mixture of alcohol and stupidity fueled by a large crowd of idiots,(one wonders why the large police presence?). Well authorities had to come in large numbers to show the CITY OF SHEPPARTON and the STATE CORONOR that they had total control over the SPRINGNATS and more importantly the streets of shepparton. As you could imagine our committee has several meetings with authorities leading up to each years event and over the past 2 years have showed us how 2002 (after the traggic event) saw 153 entrants being booked to 2003 where just 4 were booked (bit of a decrease hey). They have also indicated that now they have the city under control that numbers of extra authorities will not be required. Regards to our attendees up to our 10 year we saw increases of around 26% each year with a total of over 63.000 people to celebrate our 10th year. We expected a drop on this but were still amazed to see over 58.500 attendees in 2003. Any futher comments please feel free to contact me at www.springcarnationals.com (http://www.springcarnationals.com) regards les adams SPRINGNATS ORGANISER

15-09-04, 10:01 GMT+10#16 Leith you've missed the point.
I dont drink, and crowd control is not my problem, it's the police and orgainsers.
I'd be going up to show my car, but if I get defected for taking up my car, then it's not worth it.
If I got caught speeding, doin skids, or whatever then I'd wear it, simple.
But it's when I get done for just being there, just minding my own business, thats what the boys are talking about.
It's like they hold a blitz at the same time, targetting modified cars, it makes it very hard for the enthusiests.

15-09-04, 10:05 GMT+10#18 I didn't know about the death, didn't hear of it anywhere.
If I just put mine in the show n shine, would it need a RWC? or have to go through scrutineering?

15-09-04, 10:21 GMT+10#19 Morgo I am heavily responsible for the involvement of "Rare Spares" with The Rare Spares Spring Nats 12 (which is why i repeat the name so much), I completly understand your concerns and I had the same concerns, this is a great event that was unfortunately marred by a terrible incident followed by a knee jerk reaction from police the following year. I will not deny that alot of canarys were handed out 2002 because they were, but that number dropped dramitically for 2003 and we hope to see none in 2004.
We believe that 2002 was a one off police blitz, and have become involved in this event because we see it as an excelent community event that everyone can enjoy.

Thats positive to hear and reassuring,
I'll be there regardless, but as a spectator or entrant depends on how the police react to it all,
As a genuine streeter driving from Ballarat, there would be nothing worse than having to pay to get it towed home.
I understand that if the car is obviously in breach of laws then, yeah it should have a canary placed on it, fair enough.
Well see how it goes, looks promising so far.
LOL Leith, I didn't know you worked for rare spares? who would of thought?
Thanks for your time in reading and addressing what the fellow members and myself, had to say,
Much appreciated!!
