Hey champs..
Fitting my XF throttle body today or tomorow... but im kinda stuck
I KNOW THAT THERE ARE MANY PAGES ABUT THROTTLE BODIES BUT
I i am unsure what to ge from the wreckers... im gonna go and buy the XF throttle body alone and thats not including teh wires or anything else.. ill post up some pics of what i had bought!
Im wawnting to know do i need any other parts to complete this task?
Sorry guys if you have read this many times but i want to do it today or tomorw so any help would be appreciated!

All you need is the throttle body with the butterfly and butterfly shaft. You can use the vl tps. Just one thing, what series tb are u getting? Series 1 or series 2? You will have a bit more trouble/work with the series 2 tb. This occurs when you try to hook up the tps. With the series 1, the tps will be in the same position, u just have to make a mount/bracket to hold it in position; with the series 2, the tps will be angled down and to the other side, which makes making the mount/bracket alot harder.
I'm sure that u know this from reading the other threads.
Good luck with it.

Are you going to get the manifold match ported???
Let us know how you go. And whether there was any trouble you had. Im quite keen on doing this to mine very soon

yeah thatnks for that.. **** knows what series it is though!
The guy wouldnt ahve a clue either hat it was!
Im pretty sure there isnt too much work having ahd a look at it this afternoon.. i cant wait to do it... and no im not gonna get the mainfold ported! Probably cost a ****load!
How muh would you say for it to be match ported?
Bye the way what is the size of a Stock VL NA Body to teh XF size?
I think its 65mm for the XF and 56mm for The VL!

how much did you pick up the throttle body for? also will you be fitting it or you going to get someone else to do it?

I did mine a few weeks ago and found I had to:
Stretch the TB mounting-bolt holes with a round file,
Make up a new TPS mounting plate,
Grind up a tapered mounting block (from thermoset plastic),
Change the rubber joining sleeve (to the intake pipe),
Grind the butterfly shaft to fit the VL TPS,
Cut-down and grind the VL Allen-bolts (length),
Remove two short copper air tubes and fit two 15mm Welsh plugs to seal the holes,
Dill up through the bottom to fit the small VL vacuum tube,
Replace both VL water hoses and fit a joiner between the new ones,
Port the plenum (not much point without doing it),
Set up the TPS with a multimeter,
Bend the throttle cable bracket (to take up slack), adjust the cable,
Block off the XF IAA holes (with Welsh plugs),
Replace the rocker cover breather hose,
And the XF butterfly doesn't seal air-tight, which makes the VL IAA valve useless (wound it right in) and can't hold the idle below 850 RPM.
Good luck with it, dude.

Mate,
VL TB has a 54mm butterfly
XF TB has a 65mm butterfly
I'm using a series 2 XF TB and I can turn my idle down to about 600rpm. Got it sitting between 750-800rpm.

I've also had a little trouble with my idle too, most of the time it runs at 900-950 as I can't get it any lower. But I think that problem is due to the butterfly not completely sealing as it may be worn, or not centered properly. When I first put it on, it wouldn't idle below 1200, but we loosen the butterfly screws and re-centered it. I might have another play with it so see if I can get it a little lower.
By the way, series 1 is 65mm, and series 2 is 68mm diameter.

Mate,
Well it's the one with 68mm at the rear. I don't know whether or not the butterfly is matched to this thou? My inlet manifold was ported to 68mm.

07-09-04, 11:40 GMT+10#10 I'm fairly sure that mine was only ported out to 65mm as that was as far as it could go.
You have a series 2 tb right? So your tps is pointing in a SE direction instead of the normal W direction yes? ( I just want to confirm this )

Mate,
It's a series 2 XF TB. The bloke who did my manifold tig welded more aluminium to the flange to open it up to 68mm.
The VL TPS sits in a SW direction. Thus, rotate TPS downward 45 deg. from normal position.

joel.

Unsure if its teh series 2 or series 1.... the series one wil be easier to fit wont it?
Also... ill try and make some custom setup to fitit and ill get you some pictures of it and post em up!
Cheers fellas

Ah right, I was just trying to find out the exact difference between the series 1 and series 2 XF tb's other than the size ( as mine is a series 1). I think I'm getting confused with all the other threads on here.
BeeJay, good work. Measure the back inner diameter of the tb to find out what size it is.

08-09-04, 17:12 GMT+10#14 anyone got dyno results form doing this or roughly what power to expect? I'd say upto 4 or 5kw max.

09-09-04, 13:35 GMT+10#15 ill ge some figures for you but ill be using a Apexi meter and i will measure the results like after 10 runs and average the runs... giving it a good estimate... my estimate is aonly about 5 kws at ther rear.. ut in a way.. mroe the better!... and its suitable in a turbo appliation on a NA

Yeah - I'm considering making one up, JuZi. For the moment, I've settled it down a fair bit by applying a fine schmeer of 'JB Weld', which is a high-temp, super-strength Epoxy resin, to the outer edge of the butterfly (with Vasoline on the inner surface of the TB while it went off) - It's not airtight, but a Hell of a lot better than it was. It's only a temporary fix, I reckon the engine will eventually eat the JB.
Manually setting up the AFM (a-la Gregory's) has settled and smoothed it even further - She must have been running as rich as buggery.
Anyone ever made a butterfly?
Cheers.

12-09-04, 09:26 GMT+10#18 has anyone got any dyno results?
or does anyone know how much the mod with an sxhaust and all the crap... will make?

12-09-04, 21:33 GMT+10#19 anyone got any pictures? And does it really need a flange plate?

13-09-04, 09:36 GMT+10#20 u need the flange so the larger tb will actually fit on, if thats wot ur asking, i dont know numbers but the mod should slightly raise top end and sum decent gain everywhere else so the power curve wont be as steep
