Hey all,
this q doesnt relate to my vl directly but i'm asking here because i'm sure alot of ppl here have had to deal with it.
my mate has a very loud rx7 that is going over the pits soon, but we need to get the db level down. So far we've found two ways that we could do ourselves:
1- making up a baffle out of tin or something then inserting that in a join of the exhaust
2- stuffing steel wool up the muffler
anyone have any suggestions? We like the baffle idea but need help as in what it is, how to make a simple one etc...
any help would be so SO appreciated!!!
cheers, Creeper

i have heard of people just using an exhaust flange and instead of having the big centre hole cut out, just a few holes are drilled in it instead
it must do wonders for the flow lol but it should get you past the pits

umm wouldnt steel wool ignite and blow huge amounts of flame and sparks out the exhaust!! hahaha
ive heard stuffing a heap chicken wire up the exhaust lowers the db, wont help the flow tho :P
very cheep to do also!

Easy, i know two good ways, 1st take one of the "cat" gaskets out and make a new 1 with only a few small hole and dont flog the car or it will blow out. 2nd get a coat hanger and steel scourer not steel wool, make a ball with the scourer and wrap the coat hanger around it, then put the coat hanger out straight and make a loop on the end and shove it up the exhuast, then when done get a torch and a hook and go fishing!

Coathanger idea sounds good, you could put it in easy around the corner form the centre then rip it out once licensed. Does it work well Jet? Does the ball have to pack up tight against the inside of the muffler as in to block it??
the cat gasket sounds good too, probly safer for exhaust.

ive had a flange put on the backend of my exhaust for the pits
i remove the 2 1/2inch tail section an bolt up a 1 1/2 inch pipe with stock muffler
this takes my 103 db system down to 87db
same system took my 109db hx down to 89
any decent exhaust place should be able to do sumthin like this for ya cheap and most places have a db meter so u can leave the place with ur saviour pipe knowing that with it in place noise isnt gunna be a problem

02-09-04, 13:49 GMT+10#11 A mate of mine just got chicken wire and roll it up really tight into a cylinder shape then shove it up the exhaust. Worked real good he recons.
Love shreds flange Idea though. Easily unbolt 3 inch system and bolt on 2inch.

03-09-04, 20:43 GMT+10#16 hey jet, does the ball of steel method have potential to damage anything? I'd say not given youve used it ok before, but just wondering?

It will only blow out!

04-09-04, 14:56 GMT+10#18 hahah nah i can imagine shooting a scourer/hanger device out the exhaust straight through someones car window.
i'd only put it in just round the corner form the depot then limp it in, limp it out after and then out it comes.
how much quieter does it really make it? I mean assuming this exhaust is pretty big (you guys know how loud rotas are). think itd pass?
