I had a good mate yesterday visit the epa, he managed to speak to one of the main blokes down there. Top bloke too funnily enuff. couldnt speak any higher of him. its not the blokes down at the EPA that are pricks, its the ppl that send you there. but anyways - Apparently - lets say you do up your car to X specs, ie - roller bearing turbo, autronic ecu, cooler etc - of course you can detune it so it runs like poo but as long as epa safe (no one needs to know that part) Then theres a few places where you take your car, I beleive toyota have a depot for this where you pay 1700 bucks for a days / nites worth of tests on the cars emissions etc. and if this is passed. ANY car not just yours that is up to the same specs the aussie TOGS (as I call them - ANTI WOGS) cannot lay a finger on you and cannot send you to the epa either as they have passed aussie standards. of course its a 1700 dollar outlay considering you have to pass. but if someone does this to the specs that most of us would have - ie cooler, bigger turbo, some boost, etc etc then NO on can EVER touch us again. my 2 cents

maybe ct car over the next 6 months????? But you would need to have the exact same specs.... And blokes at EPA said no bigger turbo, no plenum etc P.s there was a thread a few months back on this, and the price they were talking about was 2500? Turbopower and Morgan were talking about it....

Thats good to know! But would waving that in front of a cops face be any different to a Engineers report.... would they even take notice of it....... Or would they just give you the defect anyway, and say sort it out in court/EPA... etc etc

pfffft, like the EPA would know the difference between a GT35 and a T3, or an AVO stage 2 and a hybrid cooler...... you could get away with a fair few variations on the main theme.

I have been out there and the have a mechanic/engineering background and they know what there on about... they know the difference between the na and vlt charcoal canister.... they know the difference when the PCV is replaced with a welch plug.... Coolers they know, trust me (But it doesn't matter, all coolers are fine now)

Petros - I'd definately be up for it with the CT CAR - then we all can drive the heavily modded vlt's around with no hassles... Imagine the streets of st kilda, chapel etc... What do you think?

it would be hard to pass - but you need someone smart who can detune her before the day.

Wouldn't that mean that if you detuned it to run 5 psi of boost.. then your vlt is only allowed to run 5psi boost if you've passed the testings etc?

no one will know how much psi your running afterwards m8 :P

True Dat! run 2-3 pound for test, 30 afterwards? Would a highly modifed vlt be able to be detuned succesfully... I suppose they would try to minimise fuel to decrease emmisions etc yeh?

but if your car pasted the tests, wouldn't it pass the EPA tests anyway?

Well they state: NO bigger turbos, NO aftermarket ECU's NO custom plenum's etc. But this test would override there rules if your car passed thi emissions testing done at the specialist station... Thats what I'm lead to believe... Would be definately a good option nd if everyone got together and did one test on a particular car, it would be most benificial to most vlt drivers.

shouldnt matter about the stally at all - that is used when the car is under load. when they rev the car to the DB limit - they rev it in park / neutral

Yeah this sounds good. But is there anyway you can find out if it would apply in N.S.W. If so, we should all get a donation happening
