I went for a roadworthy and the bushes are flogged. I decided to do it myself as im good with cars . . . this has got me stumped.
The rear control arm bushes need to be replaced on my VL sedan. I have the new ones and wondering if anyone has replaced them before and how to do it.
Ive tried punching them out to no avail (degreased, cleaned and spray oiled them up) . . . Any ideas on how to do it without taking to a mechanic as ive already pulled one control arm off and therefore is not driveable
Cheers

I'm pretty sure you need some sort of pressing machine to replace them...

I replaced some bushes on my old datsun stanza years abck and what I did in the end was get a hole saw, and drill out the majority of the rubber in the bush. I then used a hacksaw to cut thru the rubber and the metal ring around the inside of the control arm hole (really descriptive, I know). You ahve to be careful tho that you don't cut into the control arm hole, as that can weaken it. You may need to use a screwdriver and hammer and pliers to remove the metal ring in the end as it may have semi fused to the inside of the control arm hole. The new bushes are easy to get in if they are jsut nylon ones. Coat em in rubber, make sure they are lubed up well and slide em on in.

I have done the bushes in a commodore before, the bushes fitted in the arms are all pretty easy. The ones in the diff housing are damn difficult to replace and if there gone i think it's probably easier to get a new diff from the wreckers or pay someone to do it!!! To remove and replace the bushes in the arms u need access to a proper hydraulic press and something to space the arms to prevent the sides from closing in.
if you only need to replace bushes in the arms then remove all the arms and take them with the new bushes to a mechanic or engineering workshop and get them to press the old out and the new in. Or get second hand arms with good bushes from a VB-C in a paddock somewhere

take it to Pedders or a similar suspension place as they have the right equipment!
