I cant see the anyones posted anything on here about last night 20aug04 so i will.
Last night at harrys at about 1100pm some old guy in a 'T' bucket ford came out of the driveway and gave it a bit he got pretty crossed up and spun it around up the gutter into some bystanders.
3 people were hit and one substantially injured.
The driver was thrown from the car and apparently done a runner, cops and ambulances everywhere so I guess thats the end for harrys.............
Everone complains about police presence but maybe their right????????
last night there was no police there and it took 5-10 mins before one arrived
so it looks like one guy has blown it for everyone...........

I was there and saw it all - had a clear view of the whole thing.
it was the 1st week that the police wern't making thier regular patrols around harry's. Everyone was taking advantage of it, and it was only a matter of time before someone stuffed up. Plenty of cars and bikes took the opportunity to do a burnout on thier way out. One stocko POS even decided cause his car couldn't, to swerve sideways to induce a slide almost collecting on-coming traffic.
about 10:30 - 10:35 the hotrods were leaving - the one involved in the incident came out of the driveway and turned left - when he was straight, be booted it, fish tailed up the road and it flicked around on him - you could see him fighting the wheel (good old hotrods with thier vertical/horizontal steering wheels !). Hit the curb, over an electrical box - and just saw a few people go flying - one dude got hit by the front right tyre, went over the engine (no bonnet) and crushed the air filter, landing on the other side of the car. Me and my other half (bec) went over with the croud - trying to get them all back from the acco. Noticed 1 girl on the far side of the car was unconsious - may have been under the car at some point. another asian bloke was laying down near the smashed green electrical box - looked like he was in shock, except for his legs looked in pretty bad shape - possibly 1 or both broken.
The driver was at the scene - did not seem injured, and i dont think he was thrown from the vehicle. The driver was in shock and a few people were (understanderbly) trying to have a go at him. He was led over to the bus shelter (i think) to let him sit down.
The ambo's were on scene pretty quickly - within 4 or 5 mins of the incident (before the cops). Within 10 mins of the acco, there 3 ambos, 6 cop cars, 1 firey, channel nine news crew, and a tow truck on scene. In the state of confusion the cops did have trouble finding the driver as there were about 200 people crowding round the acco.
Just thought i'd make a few things straight - I was there - i saw the whole thing.
my 2c on it all ?? Personally i dont mind a burnout - however doing it with 200 people standing around on the edge of the road is utter stupidity. The hotrod was not doing a "burnout", just took off quickly and the rear end started sliding around a bit (no smoke at all), and t buckets arnt the easiest things to steer when they get out of shape. An incident like this was waiting to happen and it goes to show just how quickly things can go wrong.

Argh just another reason for the cops to pay alot of attention to these kind of gatherings i guess. Somehow i can see this giving them even more reason to have a lot more cops out on the roads over the weekends.
Maybe its not a bad thing afterall, they give everyone some space and they just get carried away..
Anyways enough of my dribble,
All the best to the innocent people on the side of the road just there to see some nice cars, and the occasional burnout i imagine, but minus a car driving over them :/

I saw that on the news last night. Then I go down to the BWCP around 10. There's a crowd egging on these Fu(wits in there sh1tbox stockers to do burnouts. 200 people standing around drinking and being general fu(kwits. I almost got into a blue for telling a guy in a stock ****box with p plates from NSW to p1ssoff.
I was getting real angry with these turds that stuff it for everyone. There was a film crew on the esplanade and a cop was sitting in the carpark after the tossers left. I don't mind the cops being there if it means the looser element stays away.
It was only a matter of time till someone got hurt. And they did. I hope they're ok.
And people wonder why Dawn Chrichlow wants to charge people to park at the BWCP?
I'm done know.

Don't be a tosser Andy. We don't know the guy or what it was like in the car. The last car I would imagine to crash would be a Rod. They are owned by (generally) older guys who have more driving experience and ocmmon sense. I guess he was just giving it a bootful cause the kids wanted to see it and he had an accident. It happens. He paid the price. (lawsuits for him over the next 5 years) I don't think V8 drivers are any worse than some of those losers that go buy a silvia turbo to be cool and put them into a pole.
Andy is gay. See-ya!

yer i dont think it matters wat engine is in the car
it is just purely the type of person you are and the driving experience
just hope the people are ok and i agree that cops at harrys dinner is a good thing because so many people crowd that place

guys, i must say that i am amazed at the amount of people who beleive that a police prescence at Harry's is a good thing. I thought i was the only 1. I left on fri nite at about 10:30, because it was gettin a bit out of hand. It was the first nite the cops haven't been there for a while. I said to my gf, i bet you $100 somethign will happen tonite. Sure enough, sat mornin i hear about the accident. It was waiting to happen. I think even 1 copper there keeps the ****heads away. As long as they do not pick on us for parking there, things will be fine. When you have a crowd of about 200 people, and a drunk guy yellin 'do some skids' or 'subwoofer', you must be stupid to pull a skid. There's a time and a place for that sort of ****. I am amazed to see that so many of you guys share the same views as i do. its a good thing, and shows that there is a smart few people out there. And Btw, alot of people like to bag the police, but who do they go crying to when their car is stolen. Sure, there are a few corrupt police, like there are ****heads in cars, but it is a minority, and no matter what crowd, there will always be a minority who ruin it for everyone else.

Similar thing happened with a Corvette last year, so I don't think so.
All in all, it's a shame that an accident happened, and I feel for both the driver and the injured bystanders.
So let this be a lesson to you - stand downwind.
Steve.

23-08-04, 17:13 GMT+10#14 heheheh ITSGMH im just stirrin the pot , you know that.
i knew i would get a rise out of luke aswell , cos he is a v8 master.
but if u look at it , the only 2 incidents to happen at harrys were the V8 vette and the V8 bucket , both owned by the older blokes.
maybe not all of us turbocharged youngsters are to blame

You hit the nail on the head. Just because of a few power hungry cops the rest are classed as d1cks. They're not, but we are the same. Theres a few (hundred) ****heads and a coupla thousand good car enthusiasts. We will never win. It's been goin' on since the '50s. Look at movies like American Graffitti. I was in a protest about 6-7 years ago against our treatment by the council and the police. When we were using the Spit. We acheived a lot but everyone complained about the chosen venue. That venue was the Broadwater Carpark.........
Now that everyone uses it the council has started wingeing(?) again. They want us to use Darlington Park. Hello.. they closed that down too. They closed down Carrara raceway for developement issues, What about a prime peice of real estate 2 mins from the cbd. Gold Coast turf Club. How the hell is it that it's still there. Because it's too close to there own offices and all hell would breakout within the "money circles". Bloody politics. They don't give a rats ass.
They tell us to use Willowbank, which we do on occasion. Why the hell can't they use Eagle Farm? same dog , different Sh1t.
I've wanted to release this built up anger for a while now.
Thanks for listening.
Cheers
Glenn

Oh and BTW - Darlington Park isn't closed if you know the owner.... Awesome little track, no walls but so CAMS don't want to touch it witha barge pole.

23-08-04, 19:14 GMT+10#19 if u seen the new street machin there is a bunch of blocked who have a shed in an industrial estate and they just go there to do skids and stuff
i was thinkin of somethin like this out at narangba or somewhere and just have a few people there and chain off the entrant after it gets to a certain number
but then there would be people jumpin the fence and comin in to watch and get hit then liabilty insurance and **** just no worth it when u can almost garuntee some ****head would **** it
but all these people sayin "there is no where to go and do burnouts"(not you guys just hear it alot when im out cruising) archeifield burnouts are on once a fortnight it is 20 bucks and 6.50 to go in the burnout comp i mean comon i would pay that to have time to do a skid without worrying about the boys in blue comin to get ya and the fear of once it gets smokey u cant see the 200 drunk 12 year olds running round on the road
