Totally off subject but I have 2 turtles as pets, yes they are legal to have as pets but some species require a wildlife license.
Most pet shops sell them these days. But at marked up prices best bet is to buy private through the newspaper classifieds.

Red Jet, I want to get one but what sorta sh*t you need to keep em? Like do u just have a tank you stick it in and feed it etc? Do they bite? or can you tame em eventually. How much do they roughly sell for?

for a moment then i thought a turtle was some sort of 'other car'
u need a level one licence i think - which is the same as bird licence.
one big fish tank, and make it like a beach, some land and some water,
my mate had one and the fu*ker would bite! even when u stuck a ruler in there!! lol

No license is needed for the average common long neck turtle found in most waterways within southern Australia.
You need a tank with a land area so they can crawl out of the water, they do not spend all the time in the water.
They also need a heat lamp as they are cold blooded, ie solar powered they need heat to move. And the filter in the tank to help keep the tank water muck free.
I feed mine mince meat and go down to the local fishing tackle store and buy "White bait" they love it but you can try other baits shrip etc.
Allso you can buy feeder fish from you local pet store they are brown goldfish which cost about a $1 each put them in your tank and your turtle will eat them when there hungry.
Turtles have a mind of there own you cannot train them like a dog ok.
I have never been bitten but it would not hurt anyway they have soft mouths with no teeth.
The average cost is $50 up for a turtle and add about $450 for a decent tank setup with filter, heat lamp.
They make unique pets everyone likes to look at them.
I'm sure there is lots of info on the web about turtles so perhaps do some research to find out more.
