DO NOT heat steering and suspension components if u intend to reuse them. Heating heat treated steel can weaken the steel and make the part break in service, i'd hate to think what a broken control arm would do in a commodore at 100kph.
To remove ball joints support the control arm from underneath all around the ball joint (make a support tool) and drive the ball joint out with a hammer. to fit the replacements either have them pressed in (the better option) or u can make up a spacer/puller that uses the thread on the ball joint to pull it in onto it's seat, if u do it this way u have to make sure the balljoint is always square in the arm and don't put too much pressure on the nut and strip the thread on the balljoint. sometimes the balljoint hole in the control arm slackens after the balljoint is removed, and the new one won't fit tight. New arms are about $40 at Holden

drive it out with a hammer, lol
i had to help a mate do the ball joints on a VQ statesman, we got one out but the otherside was that hard we had to use a porter power and a oxy blow torch to get it out, took us like 1 1/2 hours that prick of a thing out
