Well, since converting to mx7 I've had issues with balancing. In the cross member, are there meant to be spacers on the join? I'm not even sure if they were there with the MF5, but are they meant to be there now? I'm just looking at simple causes as to why its out of balance.

what exactly is out of balance? i believe that the only spacers are on the tailshaft centre bearing mount.

Well I think the tailshaft is out of balance, driving at high speeds and you get a shudder through the steering wheel and gearknob, not wheel alignment related.. So I'm guessing it'd be the shaft. Mates dad, mechanic put a new cv in for me not too long ago, since then its gotten worse again..

well there you go! if the CV was changed, and the tailshaft put back together out of phase (very easy and very likely) then it'd be vibrating at high speeds. my auto vlt is dead smooth until about 80 and then you get some tailshaft vibration that gets a bit worse from then on. which is a shame because with all new suspension it feels very stable on the road at 100+. anyways the tailshaft only has a spacer on one side for some silly reason so one day i'll fix that...

Who knows if there is a spacer on both sides? Or just on one side (9) ?? How thick are they? Also, what size are the spacers on the tail shaft bearing carrier? Cheers

Yes there has to be the spacers in there for the MX7 (in between the cross member and floor pan), due to it being a larger box. They are on both sides of the cross member. Or else your box and motor will be tilted on the wrong angle and will cause havoc with tailshaft balance etc etc. The spacer are alloy and are about 10mm thick in diameter. From what i understand they are still available through holden, or you could make them very easily. Mick

Wouldn't be too hard to make, stuff going to holden they'd want too much I think. I'm thinking I'm just going to take my car in to a tailshaft joint and let them go nuts, and hopefully get a warranty on any work they do.

yeah its an old post, but I'm still having problems on and off, its out of balance and slowly the joints are dying again.. Just putting it off until one day she's bordering death again. But yeah, since this post I've gotten my hands on the manual so I've been looking it up, cheers anyway.

Sorry Bextor for using your thread to ask some Q's, didn't see a point in starting a new thread for what is essentially the same topic. So are there any spacers for the tail shaft on a Turbo manual? Thanks Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
