guys i dunno whether it is personal preference or if it makes a sound difference but what way do your subs face?? inwards to wards cabin (hidden when boot opens) or out wards so when boot opens you can see them? i want to make mine the latter like gatecrasher did with ULOOKD but was wondering which is better for sound??? is the bass better when the sub is facing the back seat what are your thoughts???

i have found facing forward hard up against the back seat (but set back enough to the subs don't hit anything) and sealed off tight from the boot. this is louder and also minimises boot rattles. specially in sedans like vl's rear loading doesn't work so well, because the sub box sorta blocks off the sound from entering the cabin..so all that really happens is that bass is in ur boot making it rattle and just making noise really, and you don't hear it as well in the cabin.. after all your subs are there to sound good in the cabin

Facing the sub forward..ie cabin is more of a mid bass setup as there is generally less space for the sub to work in, facing the sub to the tail lights has alot more depth and bigger bass and generally higher SPL due to being more space.

so facing our wards would sound better in the cabin?

having it facing backwards.. does make it hard for the bass to get into the cabin.. and also is worse for rattles..but you are right in saying that it prolly sounds deeper... but i wouldn't say its better for spl i would recomend facing forward sealed off from the boot

also it depends what type of box u r running, a good idea is to have the ports coming out of the parcel shelf so you can hear more bass in the car not wasting it in the boot. before u stablize them, do it both ways with bass testers(or your favourite song) and see what suits "u" best, in the end u gonna listen to the music not pedestrians.

I'd love to strap a nice big sub to the back seat... like, use the cradle/baby seat point to strap it in scrap that, I'll just buy the baby seat and strap in a sub - that'll get some looks... mwaahahah... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Mine face rearwards and they sound a million times better then they did facing forwards. VL's have a metal divider behind the seat/ boot, if thats not there then you've got yourself a hole for it to come in through.. So It's pretty much coming out, hitting the metal, bouncing back off and cancelling itself out. Whereas if facing backwards the whole boot becomes more of a box, to allow more depth in the bass. It was alot louder and I felt more of the bass. And that was the way two of the audio install guys told me to do it.

mine face sidways, thats right, not front or back, i use it sidways there for the whole boot gets filled with bass, sure it rattles, but u dont stand outside ur car when ur driving do u? also if u do it this way, put 1 on left and 1 on right, amps in the middle, looks Awomes imo and goes hard AS, just fills the boot with bass Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Bass is omnidirectional so facing the subs forward or backwards wont affect the loudness. Best bet is to sound deaden the entire boot. That will stop the rattles(if u do it properly). Then face the subs backwards because it gives them more room to work and move more air. There are holes in the strength member behind the back seat so that also makes things a bit abnormal as well. Why not just rip out the back seat and make a custom box in the cabin!!!

how about mounting both subs angled towards the top of the boot, sealing of from the back seat all together, then porting straight through the parcell shelf? Do that the only point the air could move efficianly (as air follows the path of least resistance) would be through the ports. That way you would get maximum bass, and still hear it inside the cabin. Or wouldnt this work? ps i dont have subs, im just an ideas man with a bit of general knowledge... so i dunno if this would work so well

lol, thats sub iz gonna get stolen in da bak seat if u leave it parked outside. mine is facing forwards, the front of the box leans back so the sub is facing a little up, but i have it so the front is sitting ontop of the step and the back on the lower bit, gr8 angle, directs the bass straight through the 5" ports in my parcel shelf, thats the best way i reckon, facing back i got a tonne of boot rattle, this has reduced it a lot and it does sound much louder than b4, i actually had to turn up the 6x9's to even it out. if n e 1 has a better idea pls say but i think i got it right this time, i also tried facing it directly up but that was bad, real bad!

Would sound good ported.. I'm still liking mine facing backwards compared to how it was facing forwards.. Without it ported into the cabin it'd sound dodgy facing forwards I reckon. Boot Rattle can always be overcome, just a bit of stuffing around thats all.

it aint mounted it is just sitting ina ported box in the middle seat with the belt around it. yeah it could get stolen but ya cant see **** through my windows (i realy mean it you can see nothing i drive thrpugh the foreshre at newi flipping people off and they do nothing) and when i park it i put it behind one of the seats so ya realy cant see it. it would be quiter in the boot though wouldnt it? one of my mates with and r8 hsv has his sub mounted in the fold down arm rest thingy. so ya fold down the seat and its facing outa the boot at ya. looks trick too.

Yeah thats what I wanted to do in mine, until I found out about the legalities of chopping through the metal.. Lucky people withnew cars that don't have it there..

in my old vl i cut out the metal divider (whick ive since been told is illegal) and faced two tens into the cabin. but that car got written off . now i have one 12" sub. i have found that it sounds better when the sub faces the back of the car which makes the boot act like a big box. i have a cadence 12" in a ported cadence box. i found facing the sub into the car made everything rattle now facing into the boot only the boot rattles. but i cant here that for all the bass unless standing outside the car. but who stands outside there car when listening to music. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

My 12" sealed Pioneer (Factory prefabbed box) etc faces rearwards towards the taillights, alot better for the SPL but like any VL with dodgy soundproofing the lid etc all rattles ...... embarrassing but i can't hear any of them in the car, must be good cos alot of people think the sub is a 15" Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

you cudnt sit in the back of my mates TE gemini because he had a big sub box lying across the whole seat. great for bass, not so great for the passengers
