hey im all excited cos iv found a vlt i might be able to grab for cheap however it hasnt been run in a long time, is this a real problem? what needs to be done in order to get the oil pumping through the engine so it doesnt **** itself when i turn it on for the first time? I was thinking about it and after a year or so couldnt the turbine have seized up and crusted around the bearings? theres so many things that could have gone wrong. do any of you guys have expierience in starting up old unused engines?

id check the turbo spins freely.change the oil and filter.check the plugs. change the coolant.you will probably want a new battery. then crank it.only once to make sure nothing is siezed. if it seems ok then start it.check for oil pressure.if you dont get any within say 20 secs shut it down.

years omg. left outside ? fuel will be no good replace, really need to clean out prob would have mositure build up. pull all the plugs out see if you can see any rust in the bores, spray some wd40 in each and try to tun over by hand first, with the plugs out. if thats ok then check the turbo spins ok. make sure the coolant is a strong green colour or prob wouldn't get it if only had water in it all this time. check the welsh plugs are not leaking. the try to start it and hope it works

There will be nothing in the way of rust on the engine/turbo bearings unless the engine has been opened, due to residual oil left on and around the bearings. It should only be a matter of checking plugs, coolant, battery, etc.

just crank the ***in thing up, if it doesnt start.. then u know u have a problem.. but chances are she'll wind over, then as soon as u get it started.. take it out to about 4500rpm jus to blow out the cobwebs.. and get that turbo bearing nicely lubed up. should be sweet as !! change the oil afterwards. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I'd change all the fluids... especially the oil and fuel. Do the oil, fuel, coolant, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, brake fluid, water in the battery... everything. You'll have to do it all anyway, you might as well do it before you start her. Check the all leads and CAS for corrosion; replace if necessary. Check for leaks. And don't forget to check all the belts!!! Last thing you want to do is snap the timing belt or any other belt. They're years old remember. Then wish yourself luck and try to start her. It probably won't start first go. If she starts, let her run idle for about 10 minutes. Listen to the idle for misfiring, and any other strange noises. Then take her for a good 30 minute drive, just to get everything flowing again. Turn her off, and start her again a few times, then do whatever else you want to do. You might want to look at some fuel injector cleaner to add to your fuel too. And use PULP. If you don't have time to do all this ****, at least replace the fuel with PULP and do the oil. Here's a tip too, when changing the oil, first drain the old oil, then run some thinner oil, like 40/15W, through and let that drain, screw the sump bolt back on, and then run the 50/20W though. As you run the thinner oil through the engine, it gets into places the thicker oil can't, and grabs the dirt and other gunk and then pulls it out as it drains. Good luck!

after you change the oil before you start the engine, remove the plug from the coil (the one with 2 wires, not the HT lead), then crank over the engine until there is oil pressure, then put the plug back and start it up just an extra precaution to prevent causing damage to your bearings on the initial start up

Basically whats already been said about the engine, but also (if its automatic??) what can happen is the friction material can flake off the clutch packs inside the transmission if it has been sitting for a long time, resulting in loss of drive.

yes it is auto, its wagon too lol. No i havent had a chance to get down to it, im tryna get a hold of the dude who owns it, havent seem him around recently, when i find him im gonna get down there, try to start it and see from there if il buy it from him or not. Im assuming it would need a bit of work for rego, seeing as there would have to be a reason a kitted vl turbo wagon in a nice custom colour wouldnt be just sitting under 1/2 an inch of dust in a carport.
