pretty much, tomorow (monday) the rta NSW is going to be having a new little booklet out that is the first serious step into introducing 3 new laws:
1. NO drivers under 21 on the road after 10pm
2. Power / weight restrictions on cars for drivers under 21
3. NO more than 1 teenage passanger.
i know this prolly wont matter 2 alot of ppl her cos ur older, but im not even 18 for a few weeks! i only just got my p's and iv been saving for a vlt for 2 years and now this **** ruins my dreams (and i bet that of many MANY others) cos im assuming a stock vlt will be over wateva the power / weight limit is.
the only bright spot i can think of is that a vlt/vlct doesnt LOOK to alot of cops like a car that may be over the limit, and in stock form it dont sound like it either. This gives it an advantage over skylines, SS commodores etc.
Im sorry if this has been posted newhere els on the site or if it is misplaced, i couldnt find it.
I feel like buying a vlt neways like iv been saving for, taking a picture of it and writing a letter to bob carr telling him how i have been dreaming about this thing for nearly 3 years and he has ****ed it.
They can say all they want "save our lives etc" but inevitably some sensible ppl are getting victimised, of which i am one, there is no way i would EVER thrash a car i had spent the better half of my teenage life saving for, i dont even speed really, all i do is cruise on the weekends (cant do that nemore due to rule #3), drive to my girly's house after school or work (cant do that nemore, rule #1, unless someone comes and picks me up)
What does everyone els think of this??? waht can we do??? reckon these rules will actually come thru??
Ouch, that's gotta suck. I think they've been thinking of doing this in SA for awhile now and if they did, i'd be mighty screwed...
Just wondering, what about delivery drivers for pizza companies? Most of the drivers where I used to work were still on their P plates and because of this new rule they can't work past 10pm now?
hey dude this is no reason to not buy a vlt its just something u will have to work around. these rules are supposedly suppose to make things easier and while a pain in the arse there is nothing u can do about it. i think its just plain stupid rule but if u let this deter u from buying a vlt your just as stupid.

They were talking about this on the morning show the other day. they had 4 experts in who were going on about this crap. the host who has kids around 17 or 18 goes how the hell do you expect people on their Ps who ae 18 and 19 to listen to this when there an adult. He then said the best thing is for compulsary driver education programs/ defensive driving courses. The audience clapped for him. Thats what they need to do not this sort of useless ****. Its just going to **** innocent people up who need to work to 12am and have to get parents, etc to pick em up.
**** it if they bring that in i just won't use P plates. No way im losing shifts at work cause of this ****. And im not going to miss driving out the SS either.

i seen the ad on TV for i think ACA a current affair and they showed pictures of guys doing burnouts in cars and there was a farkin VP Commodore there smoking it up but funny thing was it was at Eastern creek????lol dosnet that seem abit stupid and the other guy doing a burnout in a small orange heapa crap didnt even have P plates????
it dosnet matter if ur a P plater full license wateva u can still just do as stupid thing anytime i have seen old farts nearly clean me up cause they have gone straight in a Left turn lane where the is no lane to go into ahead.
this will not stop deaths but i havnet heard of the power to weight thing??
i dont think a commodore would be that bad cause if thats the case a Tx3 Turbo weighing in at 1090kg 100kw at engine has gotta be near same as a VLT which is wat like 1350kg or somthin 144kw at engine right???
so how are they going to work this out???
or is it power at the wheels do the coppers drive aroudn with a dyno on a truck and fine and get u to go on the dyno to prove how much power u got???

My old mans SS weighs i think 1600-1700 or more kg. If it was stock i might get away with it but it has 370kw, so i think it would exceed that ratio somehow
Also i heard on the news they want to ban 4x4 with P Platers. I really have no opinion onn this as i hate 4x4s anyway at the best of times. Bannin them is unfair on people who have no other car to drive.

i swear the old farts out there driving on the roads are equally if not MORE dangerous on the roads than most P platers. They dont know where they are turning, where to go, drive slow holding everyone up which makes people impatient and reckless. They dont indicate half the time, or indicate wrongly...
But yeh id like to see how they are supposed to book you, "'scuse me sir but can you drive up on our mobile dyno, just wind her out to redline in 3rd gear for us son so we can see if you are allowed to drive it or not."
i dont see why every p plate should suffer for certain individuals who aren't responsible
maybe they should just create a warning system for licence they can set up restrictions disqalifications so why not a system that stops iresponsibles driving after hours?
p plate drivers are only involved in 25% of motor vehicle accidents. this means there is another group that take the other 75%. they are not penilised though? why? becuase we are a voiceless group, mant of us cant vote(thankfully i can and will not be voting for a government with these rules) so then they win votes and not lose them by looking like there doing something to the rest of the comunity.
if we could et enough p plate drivers to march on bob cars office and notify the media we would put a huge speed bump in there road.
im going to get a patition going as well with everyoe i know who works late and will also get there employers to sign them as well asw they will loose many staff.
we need to stand up and be counted. they keep picking on us becuase we always offer no oppisition. i reckon if we did show oppisition they wouldnt kow what to do.
think for a sec 25% of all accidents according to yourself involve p platers. tell me what percent age of p platers are on the road? its a bad percentage
also why do u want us to protest about the new law. we were recently sent to war which was a divide of a nation 50/50 and the troops were still sent. there is no way we will get a 50% majority.

not trying to start an argument as everyone has there opinion but we dont need a 50% majority. we just need to stand up and make it difficult so they dont continue to keep walking all over us as they always do. they are the law and will do what they like yes but they need to be shown we disagree with them.

yes, i think at this stage this is all we can do. Someone has to (i'd be suprised if it doesnt anyway) buy a domain name and start an online petition. But for maximum impact it would have to be written id say (cos many oldies still dont view the internet as a 'real' form of media, and thats who we are going for).
Steps like this will need to be taken if this **** doesnt blow over.
I am going to go and get one of the "booklets" from the RTA this week, possibly tomorow.
Oh and with the pwr/weight. They will probably determine a certain ratio, see which cars are over the limit (so im guessing tx3's etc are GONE) and then put a note on the rego sticker so any copper can pull u up, check if ur under 21, check the rego and BANG.
I am however interested into how they are going to police modifications, they could go the insurance company route of "NO v8's, NO turbos" wev all heard that one before (Thats the reason i cant drive my old's Suburban ) but then again this is gonna cut out alot of 4wd's, and commercial turbo diesels as well as saab's and volvos etc out of it which would make this unfeasable.
The only way i can possibly imagine would be thru registration. You would state what mods u had (or would you??) and then an 'expert' would estimate the power output and hence deciding if it is suitable for <21's or not. If it was close, or you wanted to dispute it, i expect you would have to hire some sort of testing system (such as a dynometer) in an approved enviroment to "prove" ur car is below the "limit" for it's weight. I expect this would be simular to the noise testing required following canaries etc.
I know this sounds far fetched but it is the only possible way (apart from ignoring mods and focusing on stock outputs) to police modifications, as it eliminates the need for the officer pulling the vehicle over to make any sort of a decision, they can simply look at the rego sticker to see if it states "over 21's" or not.
I hate this ****, but honestly, its been coming for ages....i hope we can beat it, but we do need to unify. Someone should contact the organiser of AUTOSALOON and get a stand there with a petition, same with summernats.

extroana, the fact that p platers are a minority on the road, yet make up a severe majority of the accidents (25%) compared to the rest speaks for itself.
