Picked up an Intercooler for the car finally - Intercooler is Neno's old one. Got the piping from turbo to intercooler, intercooler, and piping intercooler to t/b. The Intercooler is one that mounts just infront of the radiator and needs the radiator to be moved back. I opted for this kind of intercooler as I dont want to start cutting the front bar up (group A bar) and dont need to cut holes anywhere to put the piping through to the front - also want to keep a/c). Sorting out the mounts for the radiator and sorting out what to do with the clutch fan/putting in new thermos I can do - but as the piping goes into and out of the cooler on the airbox side of the intercooler - it needs to go around (not over) the radiator - and it goes right through where my standard airbox is. Neno didnt have a airbox, just had a pod filter on custom pipe to the turbo instead. What are my options of fitting this and which should I go - bearing in mind, I would like to stay away from obvious defects at all costs (ie, pod filter that isnt enclosed). a) get a different cooler b) as the pipes run through the engine 1/2 of the airbox, get a custom airbox made up (where can i get this done, and how much will this set me back ??) c) go pod filter and custom pipe like Neno and hope the cops dont pop the bonnet (really REALLY dont want to do this one) d) other alternatives / suggestions ?????? Will get photo's of the cooler and the piping and the engine bay as soon as I can get battery's for the camera (damn digital cameras !!!)

mark i'd go with option B, get a custom one made up out of polished steel, it won't cost too much and will look cool. cops will still see an airbox there, with no unenclosed pod filter so you should be right.

Here's a pic of my car with the piping lay over it - you can see where its going to cause problems with the standard airbox.

mark - how did neno run an airbox with the piping like that. If you do a search there was a guy about 6months ago or so, selling custom airboxes that could hold an actual pod inside and give the 'stealth' look... The piping looks good though!

vltdreamer - i believe neno had just a pod filter under the guard - however, i'd like to keep the filter in the engine bay area with just a cold air intake coming through the guard and keep the filter enclosed. However the intercooler piping will go through the engine side half of the standard air box - not leaving very much room

Also if you modded the plenum and used the vl tb it would still all be legal and rwc

hmmmm another one where the direction is changed, thats probably the best go. Youd have to change all the piping though.

what about making the bottom bit of your airbox smaller somehow (so it sits lower) and the piping can go over the top...(if its got cold air coming in through the bottom should be no problem for it to flow)

why dont you just get the pipe to go down and under rather than across and over the top? That's how mine is setup, no front bar cutting, origional airbox fits fine, and have full air/con stock clutchfan, etc. No dramas Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
