My mate needs to hone his bores lightly and he was wondering about how to do it, he borred a honer. He will then be putting std vl turbo pistons with new nissan rings in.
get it done properly by a machine shop.it is impossible to get the perfect hone with those ****ty hand hone things.ive tried.didnt work.
i actually just picked up a block ive had done by a shop.the hone cost$103.64
isn't honing just basically telling u wether or not your bores a close to a perfect cylinder?
and if it isn't a next to perfect cylinder it needs to be bored?
Honing is "grinding" the inside of the bores with a honing tool. It basically puts the cross hatching back onto the bores walls. Seals the rings better.

Measure it and compare to spec.
If it was a non-performance motor, you could hone it yourself. But for peace of mind in a turbed motor, get it done by a machine shop. I think there is an ideal angle that the cross hatches should be, and their machine will move the hone up and down at a constant speed to achieve this. Pretty difficult by hand i'm tippin'.
