Does anyone have or does anyone know any information on the transmissions that are auto and manual? What I mean is like in those new Ford BA turbo cars, like you have a normal auto shifter but you can move the shifter to the left and toggle up and down gears in a manual kind of way with using no clutch? Kind of like those old arcade games where they have up and down a gear...
Also anyone know any costs involved in purchasing one of these to fit a VL?
Thanks.

it's just an auto box that's controlled electronically, it's not in any way a manual box. the shifter can be used to go up and down gears with the use of a simple circuit.

This item is called TIPTRONIC. Only works with electronically controlled transmissions. The only items electronically controlled on the VL is 4th and kickdown.

04-08-04, 16:25 GMT+10#12 yep, just manualise your VL auto and get a good shifter fitted, I've owned and recommend the B&M Quicksilver ratchet shifter, these are awesome for shifting, you'll never miss a gear and they are lightening fast, and can also have reverse pattern!

08-08-04, 19:05 GMT+10#14 Reverse pattern (P-R-N-1-2-3). I don't like them in racing applications due to the fact that when in 3rd at high speed, if the need to get into neutral (ie engine or transmission blow up) you can't.

10-08-04, 20:14 GMT+10#15 IF you have a shift kit can you have the option of doing it manually OR letting the gears change themselves?

11-08-04, 02:05 GMT+10#16 The term Full Manual or Transbrake indicates that no automatic shifting takes place. A shift kit generally improves shift quality by allowing oil to flow faster and with the changing springs that control pressure or accumulator pressure. Accumulators act like shock absorbers- cushioning the shift.

11-08-04, 11:15 GMT+10#17 So when a Trimatic runs a full manual valve body, there is no computer component needed? Is the Jatco computer controlled? I am pretty sure it is, so when it's gets converted to full manual, does this mean the computer is junked?

11-08-04, 14:15 GMT+10#18 the jatco is primarily vacuum controlled, but certain functions are controlled by the computer, such as overdrive engagement at certain speeds, and i suspect 2-1 kickdown as well. however the shift rates are all modulated by vacuum, hence a shift kit which modifies the valve body changes the rate of gear applications. it makes them quicker and harder.
oh and i think you would still need the computer, yes, unless perhaps a full manual valve body was installed along with the deletion of 4th gear, as in a full racing application. not 100% sure on this though.

12-08-04, 21:27 GMT+10#19 yes the jatco auto controls 4th and BOTH kickdown changes , ie 3-2 and 2-1
