I just drove my VL from Queensland to Victoria. On ariving to Melbourne I have noticed what sounds like loose metal tinning in my exhaust. My exhaust in new from the CAT back as of about a year ago. The sound is really bad at idle and low acceleration, but once i hit like 2500 RPM and get some flow through the exhaust the sound goes away. Seeing I just rocked into Melb and dont know where any good wreckers are or good exhaust places can someone give me some advice on who is good??? I am on the East side of Melbourne too. Chears Guys

one of the rubbers holding the exhaust up could have come off, which can cause the exhaust to rub on the metal above the diff, happend to mine after I got a new exhaust fitted.

your car was running rich at some stage or overfueled along that trip...that fuel may have ignited along the pipe and basically caused melt down in the cat the honeycomb inside the cat will be cracked and the loose bits will be floating around with the exhaust gas flowing thru causing the 'loose rocks in a tin can' noise unfortunately, youll have to gut your cat or get a new one as there isnt a warranty for this kind of thing because its due to the tune of your car ive had this happen twice in a year...youll just have to put up with the smell of a gutted cat Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Thanks guys I know it is the CAT coz i was kicking it and could hear it rattle. The question now it to punch the centre out or a new CAT $300ish appaently Mr Mitus told me, and he also said they only last 170,000 km's. Is this true or is he pullin his wang??? Also I have extractors, Pod filter, 2 3/4 tubing and a 3 inch muffler. Should I be looking at a HI-Flow CAT??? I wanna keep the car roadworthy coz I got to swing over rego to VIC at some point soon.

you dont need a high flow cat...just get a second hand one from here or a new normal cat...i dont see why youd need a high flow on your NA stuff paying $300 for a new high flow...performance will be negligable

it all depends on how much fuel ur expecting the engine to dump into it, you'de better just put a normal cat but one big enough if u can find to suit ur exhaust and then wen u get roadworthy gut it but not fully, apparently if u dont empty it all out it wont make that hollow sound when u tap it therefore cops wont know its gutted

Yeah my zorst sounds crap to, loud but crap, one of me mates reckons i got no cat, or that it has **** it self. I might put a sound file on here one day of what my car sounds like and see what ppl think it is. Plus it backfires. The dude i brought the car off said he put a sports system on it, and i was llike, nah it can't be cos of how it sounds, its a mystery...

Yeah I will one day man, but strangely tonight I reved my car up, no backfire? And I was like wtf its not backfiring, wicked!!! At least it wasn't backfiring like it normally does while in park and being reved, dunno about decceliration backfire though, i don't think it was then either. I didn't even change anything or try and fix it, it just come good for some reason... Now it sounds wicked.

ahhhhhhhhhhh...... u gotta love the VL brain.... ****s itself one day, then fixes itself the next... honestly they got a mind of their own. my cousins vl did not start one day. for about an hour tryin to start it. we pushed it 2 blocks to the mechanic... first go,voila! fires up. second go, fires up, third go fires up. as soon as he got it home... it wouldnt start again... lol he ended up kicking the **** out of the whole car and to this day it sits in the back yard untouched. now thats a stubborn vl.
