My front tyres are wearing badly on the inside edge, the local tyre shop wants to sell me adjustable strut tops for like $300 to fix the camber angle(which is quite visibly huge!). Do I need these? or how do I save the next pair of tyres? cheers for any hints and any1's experiences..

You will get more adjustment out of adjustable strut tops which is needed if your car is a lot lower than standard. I have used Nolathane brand with no dramas, cost less than $100 trade. KMAC make a similar product but for a lot more.

Do adjustable strut tops allow fitment of a smaller spring? Or have I got things muck up?

You don't need adustable strut tops to fix your problem, unless somethings bent out of wack. He's probably got the struts in wrong position. The standard ones are mildly adjustable. 3 positions I think. I had adjustables and they were doming out the shock towers. For the street they are not needed.

thanks guys, I forgot to mention that my car has super lows in it- is there enough adjustment in the standard strut tops to fix the camber after being lowered so far?

there is not enough camber adjustment in the original bearing plates for a commodore that is raised or lowered even one inch and many standard cars have flexed in the strut towers after 200'000km and are out of alignment. I have used both the k'mac and nolathane adjustable bearing plates, both work well. the k'mac ones come with a reinforcing plate that fits on top of the strut tower and they have more adjustment and are easier to adjust they are also better quality. the last kmac set i bought, 2 years ago cost $260 delivered from kmac in taren point, sydney.

i have kmacs also but there was a problem with the first batch, however kmac were good enough to supply a new model set at marginal cost try to get bearing caps spun to minimise camber angle, start cornering harder to even tyre wear or just get adjustable tops

with it lowered that far you will need adjustable tops to correct the alignment. its also worth checking your radius rods havent bent (straightened) as that could be a major part of the problem.

If they are the original radius rods, they will be straightened out, without a doubt! Crap metal, plus undersized in diameter for the job they are meant to do. All new commodores up to the VS run the same rod but larger in diameter so they don't fatigue and straighten out, much like the aftermarket rods. Mick
