Hey Guys,
Here's a few pics of my vlt bt1.
Ive had it for around 2.5yrs, and in that time have done very little by way of mods, due to the lack of income a full-time student provides.
During those years, ive had a few problems including, overheating, blown head gaskets, blown box, stuffed fuel pump and a couple of small things.
I was able to fit a 2.5 inch mandrel bent, a cold air induction with k&n filter, turbo timer and a boost guage.
Though lately the finances are a little better organised, so i decided to treat the old girl to an overhaul....
Starting with the motor. I pulled the motor out and took it to a good friend in Bob Campbell Race Engines.
While bob did his thing, i had the car towed to Wheels Panel and Paint in Wangara (WA), where i continued pulling the body down ready for a fresh lick.
After steam cleaning the engine bay, i had it painted up ready for the new engine to be dropped in.
While waiting for the new RB, i had the turbo Hi-Flo'd and serviced by ATS with a sierra cosworth exhaust wheel, and a to4 compressor.
The wastegate was also upgraded.
Prior to all this commotion i had dramas with the original jatco box handling 13psi.
It stuffed the 2nd gear (as usual) and then after a few months, resorted to nil cooperation at all....
While everyone was quick to recommend a 5 spd, i was adament about keeping the auto feature around, so opted for a GM Trimatic built to drag specs.
I went and saw Chris Dimoff at DTM Malaga, about building the box, which included a high volume oil pump, machined clutch packs with extra clutch packs,
billet basket, new bearings, stage 2 shift kit, custom 3000rpm stally, custom tailshaft, CRS adapter plate and a b&m quicksilver shifter.
Now, i dont claim to know everything about this sorta s*%t but i thought, woah, that sounds tuff! hehehe (and he assures me it wont break)
Anyway i got the motor dropped back in, and took it back to the painter who kept it for another 2 weeks, doing last minute prep and then applying the dupont alpine white.
I picked the car up and have since proceeded to assemble the car at home, with the finish looming...
after completion i will be taking the car back to the painter for the final body buff, which should bring the car rite up to scratch.
Future mods - Front mount cooler, Programmable ECU, Bigger injectors, Upgraded fuel system, 3 inch mandrel bent, malpassi rising rate regulator and comfy seats.... hehehehe
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
