Sorry I can't help you but I'm also very interested in this as I have both a VLT and an LJ Torana that I want to turbocharge - love them both. How would the original t3 work on the 202. Sorry to jump in but I figure we're on the same wavelength.

Duz360 - I'm very interested in your viewpoint here.
What sort of setup did you try - blow thru or drawthru ., EFI or carby, petrol or gas (I'm aiming for gas only), what turbo , was it intercooled, what gearbox and diff, what compression and how achieved, in what car, and lastly why did it leave such a sour taste in your mouth.
I've a few magazines with great looking Torana Turbo's that put out good horsepower - one at Kwinana Motorplex was running nines - what I want is a reliable setup , nice to drive and capable of 11's. 11.99 will do

Yep a straight gas, 202 with a T28 would work a treat for a nice streeter.

Turbo 202's (well any holden s6 really) are difficult to turbocharge effectively largely due to the head design (not x-flow).
The inlet temprature skyrockets due to the exhaust and inlet manifolds being so close together, thus sharing each others heat!!

Yep, thats why I'd go a nice small turbo, and give it some low end poke without worrying about reliability issues.
It'd make a nice streeter, enough go to keep up with a 5ltr V8 and still good enough on fuel. IMO

PSHHHT - what is a T28 - how does it compare to the t3 (or is it the t03) thats in the Vl. What performance could I expect - when you compare to a 5ltr -what 1/4's ? And what gas setup would you recommend?
Thanks

the turbo 202 was my introduction to turbocharging.i made every mistake you can when it comes to turbocharging.reason being,i just wanted it to be cheap and easy.
it turned out to be neither.for the money you will have to outlay to get it goin good you could have put an rb26 in your car.
it was a suck through system by the way
so i will start off by listing what i did to my motor
202 bored and honed
250 crossflow ford pistons/7.5 to 1 compression ratio
standard rings and bearings
stock rods and crank
jp hi volume oil pump
yella terra head.9 port.ported
yella terra rolla rockers
stainless oversized valves
1 piece hardened push rods
custom cam
hydraulic lifters
triple valve springs
ic&e distributor and leads
turbo system
strata manifold kit/inlet and exhaust.i can get these still
t04 turbo
garret 32mm gate
52mm single webber ,3mm needle and seat.
i think thats it
it gives me shivers thinking of all the money i through into that thing.
sure you should do it blow through with efi and cooler, but a rb26 would be so much cheaper
also it used to run sooo hot it wasnt funny and pinged harder than a raver on new years eve.
hope ive helped[you decide not to do it!]
in the end i bit the bullet and bought a vlt and ive never looked back
cheers leigh

Thanks Duz360 - you haven't convinced me not too but have given me much food for thought . I know good setups exist but there are a lot of bad ones so I need to research this very well. I've got the VLT as well and I'd like to keep the 202 in the Torana.
Thanks for the input - much appreciated.

You could set this up at home your self very not much at all, just use a good oil pump as the old holden pumps gave up on standard engines!

you must go blow through, efi, hiflow t04 at least, intercooled,if you want it to work any good.i would use a 12 port head with triple injection perfection[or similar] webber based throttles.enclose them all into a plenum type arangement that feeds from your cooler

triple throttle bodies.they look like a webber carby, and bolt up to webber manifolds but they are a throttle body.ie one throttle plate for each cylinder

OK - Interesting but I would assume with straight gas and the EFI inlet manifold I should be fine

Only so long as you feed the gas straight to the intake and not though the cooler in any way!

Blow thru - turbo thru cooler with lpg introduced just before inlet manifold.
