We have just bought a VP series 2 Commodore but we are unsure of which compression ratio it came out with (it is a V6). I have done some research on the net but haven't come up with any definate results. We want to know because the motor has done 300,000 kms (body & interior is in really good nick) but the motor has the rattle of death (crappy OEM timing chain) and a dull thud which appears to be a big end bearing noise,so we are going for a full rebuild but thought while we were at it we better whack in some race pistons (engine rebuild kits aren't that much more with piston assy's),that is providing the standard rebuild kit doesn't come with the higher compression pistons standard. Why I ask is I am unsure when Holden upped the compression ratio on the V6,I know the VR's had it but I don't know whether it came out in the series 2 VP like we have (virtually has a VR motor in it) or whether it came out in the VR series 2.

i think its 8.4:1 or 8.3:1 unsure, that might be for the v8s, which is no help to you...
