I didn't test drive the Calais you got so I don't know if it was too light. Don't assume the N/A is the bad one Maybe get wheel alignment checked?

Power steering in VL's is usually very light, so if it feels heavy there's probably something wrong with that one. Check fluid level first, and see if you can spot any leaks underneath the car.

Maybe a blocked return line in the power steer

ive recently had a new rack put in mine and its really stiff, has it got a new rack in it??? I rang the joint that rebuilt it after driving on it for about a month and it didnt loosen up, he just said to bring it in and he would back the preload off a tiny bit and see how it felt, so im going to do that when the cars going again.

if the ofsets on the wheels are the same then the scraping will be ride height. if the front springs have sagged then u would have too much negative camber (wheels /-\) and the caster (self centering and turning resistance) would also be out. is it easier to turn one way than the other. like someone else said get a wheel alignment and get the angles checked, get a printout or have the mechanic write down what it was at before and after they align it so u have a record of where it's at.
