Hey,
Im chasing a set of 3.91 gears for my VLT diff, can anyone recommend somewhere i can get a set for a good price. Ive been quoted upwards of $400 to buy them new, is that about right or should i be able to chase them up cheaper.
Cheapest option looks to be to buy an R31 diff and pull it down just to get the gears. I beleive it was the autos that had the 3.7 ratio, and manuals had the 3.89 ratio, but the 3.89's were changed to 3.91 to get rid of diff noise, and then the "series 2" R31 manuals had the 3.91's??? Or am i all arse about and is it just going to be "good luck" to get a diff with the 3.91 ratio???
Thanks.
Scott.
It is the other way around. The auto's had the 3.89's and the manuals had the 3.7's. I've never heard or R31's having a 8.91 ratio. I guess the difference between the 3.89's and the 3.91's would be extremely small.
Not sure about the ser1 ser2 thing 87 calais.
I used a set of 3.89:1 second hand gears from the wreckers. $150. no noise, ran perfect no dramas.
I have heard similar about the 3.89 to 3.91 to stop noise. There was a factory recall back in the 80's because the gears were soooo noisey. My friend had several sets of brand new 3.89 gear sets sitting around from factory recall days, and finally threw them in the bin!
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
yeah, a guy i work with was the parts manager back in the R31 days at a Nissan Dealership. He is the one telling me that the 3.91's were used to replace the noisy 3.89's.
So if i get a diff from an Auto i have a 50:50 chance of getting 3.91's lol.
I wouldnt mind hearing peoples experiences with the 3.7's too.
Thanks.
