Hi guys, just wanted to know if anyone knew the rules for when a cop pulls u over and accuse you of speeding, but they wernt stopped with a camera, they were just cruising... I have herd that they have to follow you for 1Km while u are speeding, so they can get an accurate reading from their dash. True? Can they just pull u over and say you were doing whatever speed they like (if they dont have a camera, and were already driving) Also, IF this is the case, do they HAVE to give you paperwork on the spot for it to be a fine/licence loss OR are they able to send it later. Just wanting to know if its a bluff tactic where they dont actually know the speed, and just trying to scare ya by saying its coming in the mail. Thanks

Police can be deemed expert witnesses for estimating speeds I know of a case in NSW where a cop saw a car speeding and booked the driver. He was challenged, it went to court and he showed the magistrate that he was in fact able to very accurately judge vehicle speeds. The magistrate made him prove it and the cop showed him by demonstrating it on the street on a number of occassions. The offender lost the case

cops wil say woteva they like cos the law is on their side, that's why they're always breaking it and trying to get out of the punishment. It's against procedure for them to guess a speed and fine a person on their guess but they get away with it, if ur fined the best way is to give up and pay, especially if ur on ur P's u got no hope then

The law is a ass. Take it to court and see how much it cost you to have the fine squashed. Injustice happens all the time, there is nothin you can do about. So just suk it back like every one else dose. Revenue is a word used by the people of this country that have the power but refuse to unight to fight the law/goverment.

yea, they are *******s.... I booted it once and this geezer followed me for about 5Km while i WAS back to legal speed before he pulled me up... and the worst thing was... i didn't even go over the (limit + 30Km) that he's was getting at... he rekons cause HE had to do (limit + 30) to catch me, i WAS doing it... i shoulda told the guy to go back to school and realise that if im in front by a certain distance, then of course he is going to need to brake the limit to catch me.

What are you complaining about? Police ARE allowed to estimate speed and they are trained to do so. Also, im getting sick of all the police bagging on here lately, if there is another post bagging the police in here this thread will be closed.

Dont worry about it, nothing ever comes in the mail. Like you said its only a bluff. That's only from my experience though.

Hi all, I just believe if they say were you speeding, Just say no officer - dont go and be an idiot and say yes i was and i was doing 120 or somthing like that. And depending on the copper that has pulled you over just dont admit to anyting over the limit not even 1 - 5kms. Also with the question about the state debt recovery offices asking for it, i thought this use to be true a fair fewe years ago unitl they closed up that loop hole Thats just my opinion laters Wolfy

I got pulled up by a cop a few weeks back, i was cruising down the main road at around 2am. So of course he had to pull me up for something to do! He asked me what speed i was doing, he claimed i was doing 72-73kms (60 zone) and i asked him if i was doing that speed, he was a few hundred metres back not long before he pulled me up, wat speed was he doing to catch up to me in that sort of distance...Leaves them speechless and i got a "just keep an eye on ya speed". Reason is they arent allowed to break any land speed records to catch you in such a minor situation. My 2 bobs worth Anyone add on this? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Just remember that VL's get stolen heaps and that we want the cops to do something about finding them. So VLs being driven at unusual hours, like 2am, may get pulled over to make sure that everything is o.k. and that the car isn't stolen. We can't have it both ways guys. They may not tell you that's why they pulled you up but also lots of drunk drivers out then and that's one way they catch them

Very true. I would have been pleased with just a "just doing a random breath test mate" from the cop rather than excuses? dont ya agree?

True, I've had them pull me over supposedly because of an obscured no. plate ( towbar and ball were on) We ended up chatting and he told me that because VLTs get stolen he pulled me over to check. Didn't worry me that he told a porky initially.

i know for a fact they are able to estimate speeds. a mate got pulled up on the ring road, northenr suburbs in melb. cop estimated 130 in 100 - lost his licenece for a month. (p plater) the only way you can get off is if you have a pic of your speedo (they want actuall proof) so give it up champ.

i got pulled over last week for the same sort of thing... i was doing 80kmh in the 80 zone (as you do), then was braking as i came into the 60 zone but was still not at 60 as i entered the zone, it was about 70kmh because there was a black SS behind me that would have hit me if i braked harder. so i just slowed down over the next 50m or so back to 60 in the new 60 zone. anyway i got followed for ~500m then the car put it lights on and the cop said i was doing 80kmh in a 60 zone and tried to get me for the car as well but i had an unregistered vehicle permit and was coming from the mechanic so he couldnt get me. seems he was determined to get me for something... he went right over the car and said things that most certainly werent true such as canvas showing through on tyres, taillights having water in them (this is from ~2m away from the car also). so yeah, i've got a fine for $205 + 3 points for "speeding"... not cool note: once again, this is their 'estimated' speed that they gave me. i find it funny how every other car is passing you yet you're doing 20kmh over the limit??? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I had best setup a DVR with camera facing on the speedo with timestamp and round the clock recording Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

never admit to speeding, as soon as u do they have u, if they pull u over and they say how fast where u going, speed limit officer, what ever the speed limit is for the area, I they say they had to do such in such to catch you, explain to them, well i wasn't speeding, the fact that u wanted to catch up 2 me, u would have had to speed to get to me, they are supposed to be near u and for a distance, Contest it, but if u admitted to the police officer that u where speeding then u don't have a case to stand on.
