I have a factory fitted sunroof in my VL and the switch was stuffed (there's a thread somewhere on this from about a year ago). Now the car hasn't been driven much the past 12 months so we weren't really concerned, but now out of the blue and friend rolls over and has a replacement switch for my sunroof. Problem is that when the sunroof was stuck open i took it to an auto electrician to get it closed. He said switch has seen better days, however he will be able to cut a few wires and swap them over and the switch will be reversed so it would close which he did no probs. Now i have to undo what he has done to test the new switch but im lost. There is 4 wires from the car (under power window switch). Brown Wire (thick) Red Wire (thick) Red/black wire (thin) Red wire (thin) But the plastic bit the switch plugs into has 5 Wires coming from it. 2 brown wires 2 Red Wires 1 blue wire. So i figure the two of the wires from the switch go back to to one of the wires from car but which two? If anyone has a factory fitted sunroof and would be kind enough to have a look and tell me it would be greatly appreciated. So wires from car Thick brown Wire joins to ?? Thick red wire joins to?? Thin red/black wire joins to?? Thin red wire joins to??? Somehow ive gotta make 5 wires from the switch join 4 wires from the car?? Also which fuse does the factory fitted sunroof use in the calais?? Anybody .. Thanks

Your first problem will be that the sunroof wasn't factory fitted. Would have been most likely done by and aftermarket company through the dealer that sold the car new. So things like Gregories manuals etc won't have wiring info for a sunroof. They do have wiring for something that works the same which would be the power windows. It is quite possible that they used a power window switch for the sunroof as i have seen this used before in commodores (think one of my old VL's used the window switch) The power window switches for the front windows are contained in the cluster of four switches and these only use four wires to control the windows. For the sunroof they will have used a switch type like the individual rear window switch which uses five wires due to using two switches to control each rear window. From memory these switches all have the same number of terminals on them but you will need to only use four wires to connect to them but may have to link some of the other terminals depending upon the operation of the switch you have. The four wires on your car will be: 12V supply from accesorries or some other similar location. Earth wire 2 wires to the motor coil. With a multimeter you should be able to find the 12V wire when the power is switched on. The earth should be easy to find and the remaining two wires should have a resistance accross them possibly similar to a power window motor. If your sunroof switch is the same as the power window switch then pull the cluster out and connect it the same way as a front window switch is connected including any links accross terminals etc. Corsa

I have a Factory Sunroof, I'll have to take a look underneath the centre console to check the wiring though!
