Hey I have noticed that when i accelerate hard the PWR light does not appear on the dash like it used to under hard acceleration. Also last night i noticed that when i put my foot down the PWR light on the dash would blink on and off. If i would push the PWR on the light would stay on but if i clicked it off, it would still blink on/off on the dash. It reminded me of some sort of error code, is this possible ? Anyone have similar problems or know the cause ? Sounds like kickdown switch or auto ECU... maybe both ? Thanks

flicking on and off, sounds like a dodgy connection somewhere in the circuit. ??. is the box still performing like it should?, holding gears etc??, is the box changing into 4th at the right time, or at all??

wehn the power light comes on means your kciking back down to third. i hope the car doesn't kick in and out of 3rd, 4th gear when it flashes etc. If it is just the light that is playing up, get into the dash at the back, clean it up with soem crc cleaner and check the connections.

How do you get the instrument cluster out? I want to pull it out and clean it, I can get all the dash off around it, but I can't get in to see the speedo cable. How does it come off?

two screws each side - undo them and it will only be held on by the connection loom etc.

Actually i haven't had 4th gear for over a month, exactly when this problem started happening. Thats what made me think it was sumthing to do with the ECU. The PWR still had some effect though, like makes it more responsive after like 70km/h or so. Like the convertor is locking and un locking.... non turbo box btw. Does the torque convertor still lock up even though the gearbox isn't in overdrive ?

yeh, overdrive shouldn't effect the converter at all (as i hav been told), if 4th hasnt worked for a while maybe u should get another auto box (wreckers) and c if that works

I was under the impression that the ECU doesn't control gear changes??? EDIT: Try changing the auto control computer (above driver's lap in dash). I had some gear problems and changing that cleared most of it up - now I think the probs I have left is related to the instrument cluster.

The ECU controls 4th gear, lock-up torque converter (NA only) and kick back timing. The power button is essentually a 4th gear cancel button. The ECU also allows for earlier kickdowns giving the car a sportier feel when the power button is depressed.
