hey, i just tinted my tail lights last night with the help of sum 15 dollar tinting spray paint. I put 1 light coat followed by 2 fairly generous coats, tthe lights look darker but u can still clearly see the original colour of the lights, has n e 1 had the same results as me? i was expecting to see them go a black/greyish colour like the car on the bresciani ad above. they look alright but i was just wondering if they should hav came really dark, and if i keep putting coats on till they are really dark will the brake lights still b visible at day time?

Yeah i did mine. Mine are very dark, but i wouldnt mind going a bit darker. And yes the brake light colour still comes up perfectly. I was worried about the same thing, but was surprised to find no major loss in colour or brightness from any of the light bulbs!!!

Its supposed to make your tail lights look black, while still allowing the light to shine through it clearly. Its a spray on tint, not spray paint. If you cake it on then it will probably make the lights appear dimmer, but why would you want that? Might as well get some black spray paint, or just take your light bulbs out all together!

So is that how people black out their back taillights? Buy $15 spray on tint and put it on? How many coats would you put on to get it as black as Zanjara's last (4th) picture? Is it hard to do?

i have 2 coats on... i took out the tail lights and put them in a nice clean place that was vented and sparyed then gave them 2 coats waiting for each coat to dry then put them back on and resealed them so the tail lights dont leak... yeah the stuff i used is called night shades....

Changing the subject slightly, has anybody fitted clear tail lights to their VL/VK commodore? You know the ones you can buy off e-bay...

why would you bother with VK lights.... they dont fit the same as VL ones.... also VL berlina lights are already tinted black anyway as JET6 has pointed out... just get a set of them.... but then it depends on if you want GM or Aftermarket... as for the clear tail lights hwy bother with them they are so yuck!!! i rather black ones coz once you go black you wont go back... at night my tail lights light up just as if they were not tinted.....

As ridiculous at it sounds, they are cop bait believe it or not. I've had tinted tail lights before and i've received a big yellow sticker for my efforts! I used to drive a VB commodore several years back. I tinted the rear tail lights and the front indicators. Got pulled over by the cops, so I put my Hazaard lights on. After inspecting the whole car, the cop comes up to my window and tells me he's gonna defect the car because apparently the tint made the light harder to see. When he's done writing the defect and putting the yellow sticker on, he goes to walk off back to his car. I ask him "What about the indicators?". He walks back to the front looks real close at them and says "Oh yeah, you have to clear them as well" Spent a few hours with Nail polish remover to wipe it off. With the Hazzaard lights flashing, he didnt even notice the front indicators were tinted (cause it looked normal) yet he instisted that the tint was dimming the light... Go figure.

I sprayed some night shades on a torch, and it did dim the light somewhat dramatically. And it was a single light coat, the torch went from bright, to only just getting the wall that was less then 10m away.
