How much difference is in the end result between the two? Has anyone got any pics and how much difference is there in price?
Any help would be great

I'm told that acrylic isn't any good now because the new stuff doesn't have lead in it like it used to. Hence it doesn't stick well and weathers easily

Bake it on, 2pak is heaps better.

Ive always thought Acrylic looks better, if looked after! meaning - NO SUN! So show cars only???
So at the end of the day, if you actually DRIVE your car - 2pack!

yeah but dont "bake it" just let it dry at a nice temp and the
finish will be heaps better, acrylic is not as durable..

thanks paul, yeah go 2-pak, acrilic stays soft for eva, not that soft that you can fingerprint it but sun attacks bad, acrilic is a lot more work to get looking good. 2-pak dry,s harder, it has uv protectent (sunscrean), easyer to get a show quality finish, more variety in colours, ie pearls, candys, chrome illusions. the price difference is a lot but definantly worth it.
by the way dont leave 2-pak to dry in a nice temp it is designed to be baked at around 65 70 degrees, 2-pak doesnt cure properly for about 3 months even when baked, and you wont get a heaps better finish through not baking it sorry, baking causes the paint to flow until the chemical reaction happens (curing), thanks steve

im just about to start on mine. i was gonna do it at home with 2k but now youve scared me with that baking bit.what would it finish like without baking?

an oven only speeds up the drying time, this is why a paint shop has one. slow drying means better finish.

A mate does 2 pac regularly without baking and it turns out o.k.
Just beware of the fumes as it's carcenogenic so use a proper respirator

30-06-04, 22:40 GMT+10#17 hey people, when did i ever say that you CANT paint a car without an oven, i said dont for various reasons.
1. 2-pak is designed for an oven and if the paint doesnt reach a certain temp the paint will never cure properly because the chemical reaction needs the heat to work properly
2. you paint a car without an oven you get a lot more dirt in the job, thats a real prick to get rid of
3. because the paint takes longer that means its softer for longer so also dirt gets into it more
4. paint flows differently in different temps, baking at 60 degrees allows the paint to flow and even out.

slow drying means better finish. thats a load of **** sorry mate, haha, yeah right slow drying=better finish, what a crock, do you paint cars mate or anyone who has thrown there opinion in?
as you would no there are different 2pak's that go off at room temp.. yes there are, BUT, they are designed for small fast jobs, ie 1 or 2 panels, you paint a respray in that and good luck when you have to cut n polish the **** out of it, thanks steve

30-06-04, 22:49 GMT+10#19 u can do the prep work at home, like primer and rubbing it all down then drive it to the booth, or tow it and your laughin, trust me mate a booth is DEFINANTLY worth while, use a booth for sure
and also without using a booth u risk a lot of silicon, prepsol cleans the panels but not the air
