ive got a fairly new <5000 km's old yarra valley modded auto and when i sink the boot into the car it seems to 'whine' it sort of sounds like a police siren. could this be because of too much or too little fluid?

Did you mod the auto box yourself? Or you brought it like that? I would check to see how much fluid is in there ASAP.

mine did this a bit but seemed to settle in after a while. give Tony a call and see what he thinks.

Most Jatco's I hear whine... does it do it as your slowing down at the lights aswell?

my standard auto whines near the top of 3rd no matter how i drive it, i changed the oil, put a transmission treatment in it and it still does it so i assumed it's cos its old, but there might b another reason considering a <5000 modded auto does it too.

I have the standard 4 speed auto box on my berlina, and it does what you mentioned, whining when it drops back to first (i'm assuming) when pulling up to a stop. What would be causing that? The fluid level is fine. On a side note, I was dropping a friend of the girlfriend's home one nite and she laughed when she heard the whine and said it sounded like a spaceship! What the....?

What the....? lol yeah i dont think its a major problem but dont quote me on it...transmissions are definately not my forte. My brothers old trimatic auto in his ute whines all the time, and it's fine, still shifts really hard. When i first got my VL it did it aswell, mainly in first gear. My auto box is pretty rooted at the moment, i'm prob gonna replace it, and it's whining quite a lot in first gear but I wouldn't really say its any different from when i first got the car. So from that I would assume it's just a natural attribute of the jatco 4 speed. My mate's Vl turbo auto whines aswell...so i've never really been worried about it.
