Hello all, I was looking at Joels (photo of it in the 180rwhp post on page 3) NA vl 3inch stainless steel intake pipe from the TB to the AFM and i recon its sweet as compared to that sh@tty plastic crap. So first off has anyone else have this mod? The way i see it it requires a mid bend @ approx 45 Degrees (quote me if im wrong - i am only guessing) - but then you need your rocker cover emissions port so just a hole in it? that or just put on one of them oil breather filters on the rocker cover (at autobarn for 15 bucks) but at bit doggy (its not moving the sh@t around) EPA will defect your car on it because thats where 30% of your emissions are (out of my trade mechanics book) and dont block it up.... all hell will break lose lol. Then maybe just get some fansy turbo coloured rubber sleeves... Only thing is I think it will need some supports to hold it up. I guessing this would be best on the XF Throttle Body Mod (awaiting someone to put that in the tech section). Which is on my "to do" list. How much would it cost to get something made up like this? then the parts and everything else cost? Cheers, Daz

XF TB from wrecker $20 or less Stainless Steel pipe with bend, ports etc.. $100-150, it cost me around 600 to get intercooler pipes made and mandrel bends aint cheap.. Cut and Welded flange to suit XF TB $80 As for what you siad about the rocker cover breathers, just get a catch can that has no filter on it, that way it is 100% EPA legal..

This is my mates rb25. It has a steel pipe as well. Is this the sought of thing your talking about? If so it belongs to aero25, pm him and ask him how much it was.

Thanks for the replys guys, I expected the price to be large - and the only time I would do this mod is if I had an xf tb... and your not really going to gain any power, just looks good rather then plastic. another thing is just like on aero25's intake before the afm - is it necessary for a rubber tubing with ridges so the rubber aint going to get sucked in? Cheers, Daz

Cheers, Daz The rubber piece is there 'cause the pod is mounted solid. When the motor vibrates, the rubber flexes otherwise the pipe could crack or break the AFM. And It doesn't have to have ridges in it. It should be a fairly strong piece though.

You could get the pipe for easily under $100. I pay $80 for 3" alloy 90deg bends. They can shine up pretty well. Heres a photo of my intake. (For an Injected v8 - goes into the front guard) And it cost me $160 all up (2x 90 bends) Its pretty filthy at the mo, but you get the idea

Ive thought about this idea a lot and am keen on doing it but would there be a problem with heatsoak off the engien? Seems pointless if the air becomes hot...

lol fuuck i thought this thread was dead... it was one of my first posts and ive became smarter since then :P Quote: Originally Posted by VL Exec87 Ive thought about this idea a lot and am keen on doing it but would there be a problem with heatsoak off the engien? Seems pointless if the air becomes hot... Well if ya still have standard exhaust manifold it will still have the heat sheild over the top so it should be less of a heat problem... then again if you got extractors it probably will be as i havent seen a set that you can put a heat sheild on... other options would be maybe to get at exhaust wrap stuff - but really all in all i dont think it would be a worthwhile mod unless you got a XF tb Daz

im doing this with allot, just buying some stright pipe, and a 45 degree bend. then just welding it up and polishing, should be able to get it done for about 100 all up. u need the things for the vaccum hose's, and im going to be using silicone joiners thats why i said about 100. also having an attachment that go's onto the afm insteed of the pod, to have the pod in the front gaurd. if u really wanted to make sure it doesnt heat up u could get it ceramic coated

i think it will make a difference, as that black plastic thing is a bit restrictive i think, also heat off the exhaust will still get into the black plastic bit aswell.. i am keen as to do this when i get around to it

doesnt flex come into it as well or somthing?

Yes. You have to have a flex point somewhere or the piping will crack or break the AFM.

will this be ok? silicone joiner from TB to pipe, silicone joiner to AFM, pod or attacment to another pipe to put the pod behind the bumper?

Yeah that should do it.
