Mate go for the injected 308. However there are quite a few VL 's getting around with carby V8 fitted. They have been fetured in Street Machine over the years.
But hey a RB30 is goin to beat any V8. Just ask duz360..
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i converted my 304 carb to injected but the carb went really well so if ya wanna go carb and do some work to it you can get some good power, mine had gas heads and a cam thats it and beat a few injected 5litres, not much info though.

thats ok man i thought the efi motor was the first 304. i have seen and been in many a carby fed black'304' and they are nothin but slow. im sorry if that offends you but i believe i am right.im just tryin to help the guy who is considering doing the conversion. there is lots of v8s that would give much better performance than the black '304'.do you guys own cars with them or something?

24-06-04, 23:01 GMT+10#13 well each to there own, no offence taken eather as my vl carb motor slautered stock rb30et's and all it had was a cam and gas heads, but i also think they are great (if they have been looked after) because they are a tough motor and easy to maintain.
the vl rb30e had 114kw rb30et 150kw and 304 black vl 122kw so not much difference in the power but i bet the torque would be a lot different and i just reckon the v8 is a lot tougher, literally, sorry just my opinion, dont intend any offence to anyone, steve

24-06-04, 23:16 GMT+10#16 Yeah, cheers for the info, its not for me, I'm currently building an rb30det, which will go in my calais soon. Its for my brother, he wants something different, I think he just wants a basic setup, nothing flash, just a solid V8 sound!

25-06-04, 10:50 GMT+10#18 Out of al the carby V8s, the VL has the best motor. Its only down in power due to its lower compression. But they already come out with big valve heads ie L34 and comes out with Brock manifold, which only flows about 3 hp less then an Edelbrock Performer manifold also the carby that comes with it is good for about 730cfm, so there is no need to fork out money for an expensive 750 holley. If you go on the street commodres forum, you will see how easy it is to get these motors goin. Spending a max of $4K on the block and heads, it can be stroked to a 327 and you will easily be in the 12's, while still retaining your manifold and modified factory Rochester Carby.
At the end of the day, it just comes down to how much you wanna spend.
