Just wondering what a rebuild is worth, its a stocker!, when u dont have much cash u gotta love the stock power of a vl.
only problem is its costing a bit to fix up little bit by little because its 14 years old. i am considering getting a rebuild done so that i can hopefully reap the rewards of investing money into my vl instead of slowly slowly doing it and wiping off k's off the expected life duration of parts.
i got quoted around $2500
not sure if this is good or what i have only just touched on thinking about the rebuild. Any help & REAL quotes on a full rebuild job would be very much appreciated.
Cheers
Dunno bout the head, but if you're handy with a spanner and have access to a torque wrench and a workshop manual, you could have a crack at the bottom end yourself.(bar any machining of course) Rings are only $120, mains and big ends $120, a hone about $80, a few $$ to clean up the crank. As long as it dosn't need a re-bore, you could have a rebuilt bottom end for $500-$1000......I just did, that also included ceramic coating the piston crowns
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
Yeah I'm thinking of doin' this myself too. I've rebuilt a corolla motor before and that thing hammered. I don't think it will be that hard. Monstas4, is that nissan stuff or aftermarket? I'd rather use Nissan stuff to be sure.

they are a very easy motor to build.
try totalseal rings.i ran 20psi with them and it had zero blow by.$350
currently half way through a rebuild of a n/a rb30 motor. Cylinder head - inlet/outlet ports polished, new hydraulic lifters, stage 3 cam, reseated the lifters for cam spec. now with the bottom end still in doubt what to do? Leave the original pistons? deck the block raise the compression 10.5/1 - 11.0/1? and just do the usuall **** with bottom bearings, plugs ect.. any suggestions.
