As im sure most of you know (or should know), the WA government has decided to take our cars if they catch us doing illegal activities in our vehicles. Here is the new law which will be in place very soon Strike 1) Vehicle confiscated for 2 days Strike 2) Vehicle confiscated for 3 months Strike 3) Permanent confiscation of your vehicle and licence Anyone have any say on this? My say is that it is far too harsh... sure increase much larger fines or confiscate the licence, but i dont see how taking a person car (especially permanently) should be upheld? Once again it all falls down to the police officer who can decide what makes an activity illegal.... whether it be a burnout or street racing. How can he or she define a slip around the corner on a wet road? My problem with the law is that it is extremely vague and hence, the police officer can determine how to use it.

i passionately disagree with a government thinking they have the right to take an individuals property for any reason. also people try and run from the cops enough as it is... and what about the comparison of deaths by burnouts to deaths by inexperience. i was AMAZED to read that they had tried to gain the ability to confiscate cars based on reports, not just police actually witnessing events. they were actually disappointed that this was turned down. double you tee eff?? so if some bloke pissed me off i could call the cops and say he was doing burnouts down the street and he would have his car confiscated??

thats it...what are they gonna do sell them off in auction or something?.....well heres a idea?, if your gonna drag, make sure that the car you are dragging is worth it and if u both loose there(theres bound to be a law saying you wont be able to bye your car back) he can bye yours and you can bye his ......or just do smash and grabs with your spare keys and get your car back ... It works well in NSW. It's the only way to get the message to some of the dummys out there. They also get charged storage fees. I know cops who have confiscated cars and heard the story and their reasons. they were fair and the drivers they pinged were fools who deserved it

its soooooooo nice how in this so called country of democracy how all fellow australians get a say in the wonderfull laws passed in this beautiful country............GET F UCK D! Sure we need to crack down on hoons(which are mostly made up of fags with a stocky 6 and a jap wing, milo tin on their exhaust and less sense then Mcflurry, and make us car enthusiusts(spelling!) look like di ck heads but suuuuuuurely there is a better solution than this!!!??? like you guys say i to can see alot of high speed chases arising from this thoughless law reaction! might have to turn from VL car enthusiests to home burgulars!!! You can rob five hundred houses and make thousands and then pay your debt to this lovely justice system we have by doin 10 hrs of ****n community service, like some priks that robbed my place!!! ITS ALL DOWN HILL FELLAS! Some wise words which were once spoken to me "I will respect the law when the law respects me". sleeper sleeper sleeper. (ps ive just been to the pub so dont critisize me ) Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I can see why this in theory is a good idea but I can't see it being practically translated into the real world. I mean, look at how unfairly they deal with existing laws regarding modified cars, it's not hard to imaggine how these laws could be misused. The trouble is we have no one to bat for us in parliament; modified car owners (i.e. hoons) are just seen as criminals who need to be put in their place. Which is fine, but they need to make sure they're nailing the right people.

I'd absolutely guarantee that if you surveyed the general public they would agree with the new law. we live in a democracy and we are therefore supposed to respect the wishes of the majority. Like I said it has been law in NSW for many years and i haven't heard of any major problems that have arisen from it: no increase in car chases as a result etc In fact quite the opposite because these idiots that engage in unsocial behaviour ( burnouts, racing etc) end up loosing there cars for months on end. Be careful because by being so anti this idea you are putting yourselves in the 'hoon' basket where you say you shouldn't and don't want to be. Why should it be a problem to you if you don't race or do burnouts etc? See how most people drive and compare your own style of driving to them, do the majority of people race other cars or do donuts etc ? you say you are only car enthusiasts, so why are you worried about it. Stop watching TV and listening to the WA talkback shows, WA already has a reputation for being much more right wing than most states, don't get sucked into the anti any government hype of the far right

I agree with everyone here! Aus880, how do the cops determine the difference between someone who is speeding and someone who is street racing? do you really need a second car to be racing? you could be hooning through the streets to get from one place to other and the cops might get you for street racing... and hence, lose your car. I know if i was on my third offence, i sure as hwell would be telling them that i was speeding and another car caught up beside me, or that he was speeding aswell... we werent technically racing. Anyway, thats another hole in the law which could be upheld reasonably well i think.

My understanding is that it's all about the manner/style of driving: sideways, burnouts, etc Guys on here love trying to be technical but cop mates have confiscated cars where the drivers have done burnouts out of service stations or been at known areas and doing street racing. Basically it's there own stupid fault if they get done and loose their car. Stop and think of the millions, yes millions of people, who don't have this happen to them. Idiots need to accept that there will be a consequence for their stupidity and anti social behaviour. Remember they are also putting lives at risk doing it too. and isn't there more to life than 'hooning' in a car ? is anyone on here able to just take it on the chin without whinging like a baby ? And yet again: it works in NSW so why wouldn't it work o.k. in WA?

aus880: i think people are just worried about the occassional "squirt" that comes with owning a powerful car, and that the constabulary will see that in a different light than what WE do. i see no problem with getting up to the speed limit very quickly....but others think thats speeding cause the acceleration is fast, when the limit hasnt even broken thats the fine line that is gonna be tested

Many are jumping to wild conclusions based on nothing but knee jerk reactions and fear without basis. Young guys: tend to 'customise' their cars tend to show off in their cars thinking it impresses people are likely to take risks whilst driving have almost no road experience are at higher risk of death or serious injury than other motorists If this law makes you reconsider 'hooning' or some type of risk taking then it's a good thing. It may even save your life or your friends life. there's been no mass panic in NSW since it was introduced so why are you worried in W.A. It's been here in NSW for many many years Believe me letters to editors or TV or radio interviews by young guys will reinforce the 'hoon' stereotype not make things better. The general public won't suffer from the law, only those who drive too fast or take major risks and make themselves standout and ask for police attention one way or another

The general public won't suffer from the law, only those who drive too fast or take major risks and make themselves standout and ask for police attention one way or another no offence intended but: yes we tend to customise our cars yes showing off does impress others(within reason and saftey) Driving any car on any australian road is a big ****n risk anyways how old are you? Define young? coz majority of these young punks cant afford highly modded vehicles anyway+wouldnt you rather a highly moddified car behind you which would actually be safer than a 1979 carolla in da wet due to modded vehicles having 330mm rotors, big brakes & 235s on da back? what it all comes down too and what i keep telling my dad is that "its not the car that kills...its the person driving it" i agree they should maybe take their licence away 4 a while but not their car(fine would be more reasonable).I bet there was alot of yelling and screamin when it FIRST came into effect over there as you guys have alot of 9, 10 and 11 sec street cars(like to see them not break traction )!...we got a lot of gins who keep the cop5 busy and of the road wid there monthly tribal bashes anyways over here in da west siiiiiiide so theres not too much trouble Also would like to know where the fine line of getting pulled over for a real crime and illegal HARRASMENT begins????? winge winge winge i like to stir! And these days you dont need to hoon to stand out for the cops attension ya just need a set of shiny 18's or anything polished and your there best friend no probs with the law just with the upholders of it. sorry mate i dont agree with your opinion. and i dont like the idea of perth turning into kazakstahn, where the government can dictate what you can do and where you can do it. Whos to say some rookie cop who has a chip on his shoulder wont confiscate my car for spinning the wheels in the wet. The police hate our cars as it is, its just too flimsy. There is no arguement in my opinion that this WILL increase the amount of highspeed chases, how is confiscating a car saving more lives when a highspeed chase will risk so many more... moral of the story government can fvk off and catch me.
