Ok I am only new to the Scene but have always Loved VL CALAIS especially the turbos since i was a kid... Now i want to clear up a few things before i go on the hunt to buy... Should i buy one completed(done up) or do one up? How much would a descent condition one go for? looking around 4-5kish maybe more depending also do they eat a lot of fuel and would would i be able to find a factory turb vl calais? My all time favourite is a Series 2 VL calais factory turbo.what are my chances of finding one? People have told me these cars eat through your wallet like there is no tommorrow but i love them still. Who insures such a car? I have many more questions but i will leave them until later thanks in advance....

4 - 5k for a decent VL Calais Turbo? Don't think so. You will looking more around the 8 grand mark. Yes im sure u can find a factory series II calais if u try hard enough and look for long enough. Its up to u whether u buy one done up or not. if u wanna build something yourself and spend the money on it then buy a standard one so at least u know where u stand. If u buy one done up u can save yourself money cos someone else had already done to work but then again u dont know if its ben done properly and what problems may arise. If u buy a standard calais turbo they are alright on petrol, buy one with lots of mods and ur fuel bill will be pretty expensive depending on how heavy ur right foot is. Check out the thread called "insurance deals for VL boys aussie wide" apparently one of Petros' mates work for vigils who can get a good deal on a VL Turbo insurance, think your car needs to be modified though. It took me ages to find my calais, dont be in a rush and buy the first car u look at cos there are so many dodgey VL sh1tboxes around these days.

If you find a VL Calais Turbo in stock original condition the chance's of it being thrashed is low and you will save alot of money, rather than going out and spending it on a modified one... As you will start looking they are rare to find in unmodified condition all the best.

Fair enough,At least now i know how much i will be up for and it gives me time to gather the extra funds plus wait to find the good condition relatively standard Series 2 VL calais turbo i am after... Yeah after seeing some dodgily done up cars i will go with a stock one so long as i can find one,if a good modded one happens to pop up i will most likely get it but i prefer stock standard so i can customize it the way i like.... are there any common problems i should look out for? Do you know roughly how much they drink in standard form?? thanks Quote: Originally Posted by ERO30T Check out the thread called "insurance deals for VL boys aussie wide" apparently one of Petros' mates work for vigils who can get a good deal on a VL Turbo insurance, think your car needs to be modified though. It's one of my dream cars so i am preppared to wait to find the right one,i am worried that due to their age they will start to get harder and harder to find and i won't be able to get one but i have been told this is not true and they are still to be found but it's where you look.... Thanks for the heads up,you have been most helpfull.... i am truly greatfull!

I have also been warned about reliability, for me,the car needs to be very reliable but i also want descent power. is this achievable?

I found that In a non turbo VL you're looking at about 450km to a tank, and about $50 to fill the tank with a fuel price around 80c per litre. but i still would like to know the Stock VL Turbo fuel consumption

300-400k's depends what you have done and how the car is tuned etc.. You need around 10k give or take a bit for a nice clean stock vlct.. In my opinion dont get a vlt for your 1st car they can be very expensive to maintain, insurance isnt to easy to find at a good price and we dont need anymore nice vlts written off.. maybe go with a nice clean n/a low stocker untill you learn how to drive then go out and find your beast. Maybe you shouldn't look for a VLCT for your first, and get just a SL Turbo, or the like. Like I did. For $3500, I'm the 3rd owner, 1st being the cops. 2nd, some old dude champion. And I got 3rd party insurance (under my name, and I'm 18) for around $700 through Suncorp. Fuel lasts me ages, a week and a half of daily driving and weekend driving. Except I got a cop 80L tank.

Rob Sounds like a plan but i think you misunderstood me,I am not new to driving however i am new to VLCT's Though sounds like a plan,I will wait till i can gather the propper funds to own one and maintain it,taking an advanced driving course soon too so that should be fun and improve skills to some level... and aus880 very true Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
