if you have a high stall will your torque convertor lock up still work? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Lock up clutch on the torque convertor was a feature of the non-turbo auto transmissions. There is no lock-up feature on the turbo transmissions.

The solenoid only controls the lock up clutch, it isn't actually the part that locks up. I assume you have a turbo box in there now? You won't get lock up of the torque convertor in a turbo box, because the internal stuff just isn't there.

The torque convertor lock up clutch feature was intentionally deleted from the turbo auto because it was a weak part.

The turbo auto has 4 gears, the same as the non-turbo auto. The difference is the lock up clutch which engages at about 70 km/h on the non-turbo. If you have an expensive auto box built to handle lots of power, it may be a 3 speed but factory standard boxes have 4 gears.

i dont think its a factory box..its been strengthened and stuff...so it might be a 3 speed....

Yes I think 4th gear is electronically controlled, wiring/computer would be a good place to start looking for faults

I thought you could get hi-stalls that can lock up and some that cant - meaning that you can have your torque convertor lock up on the turbo transmission. Hey projktl, just noticed that we both live in riverton... think I may have seen your car around before.

yeah some hi stalls (i think TCE stalls have this?) can lock up at an electronically controlled speed.

My box when on a long trip will have four gears until the stall reaches 3200 or about 100kph and then it will drop back to third and stay there. Is this normal? because of 3.9 gears it revs at about 4000rpm at 120kph!

Hey Stocky can you explain a bit more on what you said? I have a TCE 2800rpm convertor, cost me a sh1te load, but I remember the bloke saying I can stall it higher if I want later on, if I get in to drag racing. I didn't follow what he was saying, can you shed some light on what you know?
