This is my second VL. My first one was a Series One Calais Turbo. I went to high school with Sin and when i heard he was selling his, i snapped it up quick smart.
This is what it looked like:
I then found an urge to punish myself on a Mountain Bike. So i sold that Calais and bought a 7 Grand Mountain Bike and a GQ Nissan Patrol. The Patrol was too big for a city Driver, so i got rid of that. I then found my current VL wagon up the road from me for a cheap price and in great nick. I bought it as lowered with VN Calais Rims, which loked ok, but i wanted somethign to really fill the guards, so i bought some VX Clubbie Rims with 235/35 rubber. They fill the job nicely.
I then set about putting a new Stereo Setup in it. I bought a top of the range Single Din Alpine MP3 Deck to run the tunes. Splits and 6x9's were already installed so i started to think where i could put my 2 12" Subs and amp. Many hours of swearing, blood and frustration resulted in them sitting in the spare tyre hole. I didnt have a 5th Rim to put in there, so it seemed like a good idea. Im buggered if i get a flat, but thats something i will deal with when it happens.
Here are photos of the Stereo install.
This is what the boot looks like:
The motor has only done 148,000 km's and im the third owner with log books. It a SL Wagon. No Air Con is a bit of a bugger in the Perth heat, but i get used to it. No Power Steering is a bit of a bugger as well but the arms certainly get a good workout. Its a 5sp Manual and goes really well. The rest of the interior is nothing flash, but all the seats and door trims are intact. The windows are tinted and all badges are removed from the car. It has a decent exhaust note thanks to a 2.5 Cat Back system. I put a Cold Air intake on it for some extra breathing. Im happy with its performace just now, so the planned turbo Conversion will come when the Motor packs it in.
I ran into some trouble with the car's lowered stance. A single passenger in the rear was enough to scrub the tyres on the guards. So i put in stiffer springs and changed the lowering so its now sits an inch higher. Its now only a problem when the car has three people in the back. For a N/A VL it still manages to turn heads, its mainly the wheels that do it.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
