i have a VR stato 3.8, and im looking at getting a new engine sometime down the track.... the current engine has done close to 225 000kms, so its getting kinda old, although is still going amazingly strong.. should i wait for it to give up the ghost before i replace it? or start saving now (i am a student, so i am poor) and what engine should i look at? 304? or another 3.8? im thinking 3.8, cos i dont want to chew up the fuel, and id rather have a cruise ship than a land rocket with this car... any ideas, comments are appreciated, cheers guys ~TOM

mate you say you dont have much money as your a student, you dont want a v8 because it will cost you $$$ for fuel, and your current engine is going strong? why spend money on replacing it with the same spec and condition engine. mate i think you need to just keep on studying and just drive the car...

a 304 isn't gonna make it a 'land rocket', but will make it more fun to drive.

yeah, but im starting to worry that the engine thats in there will **** up sooner or later.... cos its done so many ks.... and it has been making a ticking noise at idle for awhile.... and i was wondering about what i should replace it with when the time comes. i mean, once an engine gets that old, things start to go wrong, right?

have you heard the term "if it aint broke, don't fix it"? leave it as is, save some money whilst the car is running okay, and when the time comes you will the cash to decide if you want to rebuild, replace or fit something with a bit more power....
