Hey everyone,
I know this probably isn't the ideal forum to ask about imports, but these forums have always been good, and someone here must have some info on what i need!!! Anyway...
I'm going throught the process of bringing in a 15 year old import, everything is fine except the compliancing part. I don't have a clear idea of EXACTLY what must be done to a 15yo+ car, but as far as i can tell from reading the "Approval to Place Import Plates" doc form DOTARS (very handy btw) its mainly stuff like
*new seatbelts
*brake fluid change
*oil & filters change
*mirror changes
*child restraints etc
What i want to know is:
1) Exactly what items must be done
2) Can you do them yourself & have them signed off on
someone must know about this, so if anyone has any knowledge it'd be much appreciated!

Well I haven't done it but I've looked into it..
It can depend where your car comes from. See a lot of cars from US have red indicator lights and a lot of cars have brake lights that are indicators, so when you break and have your signal to turn right, the back right light stays red and the back left red light flashes.
Now the govt won't allow this in AU so you have to change out the lights (if they have 2 lights on each sides like corvettes) of if they only have one .. then I guess you have to somehow add an orange indicator light.
A lot of US cars have passive seatbelts .. they automatically fit but they not tight, and then you just put a lap belt over. So you need to change that. A lot of other cars have the seatbelt fitted to the door (like Vipers) and the AU govt wants the seatbelts attached to the body of the car. So you need to do that.
Not sure, but I guess you could do some of the stuff like seatbelts and then get them checked when u go for compliance..
