My temp gauge has started playing up, it used to read between the 1/4 (2nd mark) and 1/2 mark but is now anywhere between 1/4 to 3/4(5th) mark, but the car isn't running hot. How do I test to see if its the sender or the gauge? Also which vl's use the same calais gauge and is it easy to replace?

I was pretty much thinking to do that, but I haven't got either so I hope I get the right part the 1st try, just not sure what to try 1st, has anyone else had any trouble with the sender? When the gauge has been showing 3/4 the bottom hose is wamish, the top hose is hotter but still can hold it for a while, had it at radiator place and the gauge was on 1/2 and he tested it with the thermometer and it was 74c, in summer with A/C on in traffic it used to get just over 1/2 sometimes, and it would have been hotter that 74c.

Put a new sender in today and the temp is staying between 1/4 and 1/2 again.

The sender was $23 from the local spare parts place here, "better spares".
