Here is a guide on how to fit bonnet struts to your VL commodore (i guess this would be the same for VB-VL). Parts needed 2x VL wagon boot struts. 2x ball mounts for bonnet end (I bought these from Autopro for $2.70ea part number: MLSMP351. 2x ball mounts for fender end (I used VS commodore mounts which are perfect. I couldnt find a wrecked VS so i bought new from holden for $21.55 for both. Part number 92038427 2x nuts with thread to suit VS mounts Method remove front bolts from the bonnent mounts one at a time and replace with ball mounts. remove the fender bolts (the third one from the front works best. remove the clips that the fenders screws go into replace with VS items clips on struts rip out old bonnet stand. Easy as and all up with brand new struts it would cost about $85 or heaps cheaper if you use second hand struts.

mine were already done when I bought the car, heaps better than the prop rod, there's nothing to bump into when you're working in the engine bay, and looks so much cleaner and modern!

There was a how to do it on the old site, printed it out etc cost me $15 for the 2 x vl wagon struts and the 4 ball mounts just undo the front bolt on the braket that holds the bonnet, the ball mount will bolt strat up to the bonnet, then count 3 bolts from the first bolt on the guard, u will need to find a nut that fits the ball mount bolt, push the little bracket that the standard guard bolt screws into, u then have enough room to slip the ball mount bolt in, click them in, align and tighten, took me 5mins a side,

yeah the bonnet should be marked in its current position before you undo the bolts otherwise its going to move. Do the ball mounts up tight in the original position and it will sit just as it did before hand! I've done this using vb-vl struts and ball mounts

Depends on if your perdantic like i am, i know when i put them on the extra pressure pushed the bonnet up slighly, so i took them off.

I assume your talking about bowing the bonnet when its closed due to the pressure exerted on it from the struts ??

I just went under the house and dug out the wagon struts of the wagon i wrecked, the ball bolts that hold the struts into the shell of the car are the sam thread as the bonnet bolts, they screw straight in. Just have to go to Holden tomorrow and get the ones on the guard.

If you have another 2 ball bolts you can use these in the guards too. Just remove the 3rd bolt from the guard (front of car) and then fit the ball bolt and use a nut to secure it. I'll post up the article I wrote up for the old site when I can find where it is saved. Has step by step pics.
