Hey all
just wondering if its worth saying keeping a really nice vt calais all done up and dropping an 8 in it when cash allows it.
so dump the ecotec for either the old 308 5litre out of a vt ss or something maybe hsv motor or go for the Gen 3 say 225kw from holden or whatever
i know computer mounts gearbok certain wiriing will need changing and maybe diff etc but is it worth it.
say if i allow 5-8000 to do it would it be enough for all this plus a decent exhaust to free it up etc
and also where could i get my motor computer diff auto etc from to do the conversion
your thoughts please
thankyou

A waste of time and money when all you have to do is sell the car and buy similar one with a V8 in it: either 5 litre or Gen III, your choice
Nah put a V8 in it, if you like the car except for the engine why not.
As long as you understand, that you could buy a newer V8 car for cheaper.
I have seen GenIII out of a HSV with T56 go for $6500 with loom and computer in the spare parts trader.
Will all fit in with a minimum of fuss, by just borrowing some VTS2 V8 mounts and bit and pieces.
or spend 5-8000 on a sick ass turbo setup! just imagine it then!
BUT make sure its built properly so its reliable on your behalf.
on topic i personally think itd be too much stuffing around doing the swap when u could sell it and buy another car.
my calais came with a SC6 and ill play with it a bit but wont do a conversion. would rather buy a VN/VS V8 or VLT to have fun in!
mate, the calais is never gonna be a land rocket, unless you spend megabucks on it, its too heavy. i had the same prob when i wanted to start doing up the stato.... have you thought about making it into a cruise ship, and getting another car to make it go like a shower of sh|t... like a VLT? ive heard they go pretty well.....
yeah but ive had a vl turbo calais s2 and bad experince so dont think i would go that path again and two cars to run insure etc cost alot so i dunno bro may just stick a v8 in the calais
or another option say is to get a supercharger in running minimal boost without an intercooler kits are like 5 000 yeah or even spend more and run more boost with the use of a front mount inter cooo coooler like QNLOOK in Street commodores but i really would love the 8 5.0 or 5.7 :P

and if i was to have turbo i wouldnt have a turbo commodore would have to be an R33 GTS-T or a subaru WRX maybe later on when im older and insurance gets easier...
I saw the pic of your VT and I dont blame you for wanting to do something to the engine, the car is a ripper mate!.
A nice 5ltr with good exhaust might get you buy for a bit, but if you want more power a blower is only a matter of giving CAPA a call and purchasing one of their tried and tested kits.
thanxs bro ur calais looks unreal any pics of it
yeah i may end up doing that get a strong 5L then blower kit good computer and zorst and it should be alright
my vt is perfect drives well looks good has a bit go and woa!! but need more soon a 5L may b the way to go

i took mine to 200kay tonight commin from moe to dandenong and it went well it holds the road well and revs were about 5 grand so im guessing maybe 220 off the clock it should do easy and my foot wasnt to the floor but i need more i so want the eight bad, the car is complete just need a 5litre put in yumm a vt gts stroker 5.7 motor would do the trick
im so doing this one day i hope

if you go to www.commodorecarclubwa.com (http://www.commodorecarclubwa.com) and send a PM to "The Brock" he can give you the low down the on the Gen III conversion as he converted his V6 VT I wagon to Gen III.
He bought a low k VX Gen III motor and auto for the VT.
