Is there any difference between the N/A diff and Turbo diff housing? ive got a turbo diff and a N/A diff but the N/A diff is in my car atm would it matter if i put my 28spline axles + the 3:45 gears from the N/A diff + minispool in the N/A housing? is there any phsyical size difference? thanx juz.

yeah man the 28 spline axles are thicker in diameter, they probably won't fit in the 25 spline housing. easier to just swap the whole diff....

Yeah thats what im gonna have to do man, just making sure as some guy told me there the same size housing and it would fit my 28 spline axles so i thought instead of pulling the whole diff out i could just swap over axles etc. thanx bud

haha i tried to do that a while ago, but someone here in the know told me that the 28 spline cannot be jammed into the 25 housing, unless you bash it in and then it won't turn. easier to get a whole new diff. good luck!

the axle being bigger just uses a bigger ID wheel bearing, and the other end is supported in the hemisphere, so i doubt that would be a problem. Im doing this to my diff and none of the diff places ive called have said there will be any problem at all. The only size differences are in later model (VN-) housings as they are wider, and i beleive the hemispheres from VT- (i think) had a larger crownwheel at 8" instead of the VB - VS 7.8", which will foul on the VB-VS housings. Im not sure if this can be rectified by just a gear set swap or if the hemisphere itself is larger.

housings are they same as 87cal said bearings are different , and if ur using a original drum diff , u need new seals to suit a disk end , as the seals are different too. apart from that , u just need a 28spl centre , the spool and ur axles and ur set.

so does anyone out there KNOW the exact answer about the diff housing? i know the wheel bearings are a different size as i got my rear discs on my N/A diff and my wheels move about an INCH! either side which is scary when turning corners im just waiting for an axle to fall out one day so its it possible to put my 28 spline axles in my N/A housing + new wheels bearings to fit the axles + 3:45 gears + 28spline minispool! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yeah but i told him that 28 spline axles won't fit in the 25 spline housing, the clearances meant they would bind. that's not right, from what you're saying the 28 spline axles physically fit, but the bearings and seals are different. both 25 and 28 diffs are (on the outside) exactly the same size. i get it now.

what did that build cost ya andy? i can get a housing cheap as from a wrecker or whatever, but axles are a bit harder to come by. would probably end up cheaper buying a complete diff off the forums here?

i bought my axles for $150 hehehe , what a score. anyway , i dropped them off with the drum diff. they supplied the lsd centre , which was rebuilt and came out tight as , nearly chirpy like a spool hehehe recut the splines and cleaned and mande sure my axles were both straight. new seals wheel and axle bearings. couple litres of oil and a friction additive too. had the original 3.45 gearset lapped all for $700
