How can I hold the engine to stop it from turning while I get the front crankshaft pulley bolt off? I don't have a rattle gun to get it off with. It's a turbo auto BTW.

you shouldnt need a rattle gun to get it off, nor should u really have to stop the motor rotating. Get ur breaker bar on there with the right socket.. and undo it with hard fast jolty kinda twists.. that should get it freed up and u can take it out. has worked for me on numerous occasions. Firs off try putting it with the bar facing the passenger side wheel.. and pull up hard and fast if it works. u owe me biarch ! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

or you can get a friend and a big-ass screwdriver and jam it in the teeth on the flywheel/torque converter so it doesnt turn. -jimmy

Hehe give me your turbo motor - its a known fault in the turbo motors, you can have my N/A motor, they come off that motor much easier hehe -David Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Just put a socket on it, with a large breaker bar that reaches to the chassis rail, and then just crank it bit by bit till the bolt cracks. Thats how we do it at work if a rattle gun can't get it off Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

If its still in the car, take off the starter moter and hold the fly wheel with a bolt.

I think Jordy is wondering how he gets enough torque on the mofo To answer that, you can get it tight enough with a decent breaker bar. If you can't get it off the way Ollie said try using a bar and a bit of pipe if the bars too short. Brace it on the chassis rail and give the key a quick turn. Good idea to have the coil lead d/c and someone making sure the socket doesn't slip. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yeah i know.. but i was referring to putting a socket on the nut and turning it nice and tight.. clockwise with a breaker bar.. (with all the spark plugs in and tight) does ur car have poor compression ? Cheers Ollie

More than likely my car has a cracked head/blown head gasket. I'm getting hold of a compression tester today hopefully and then planning to take the head off tomorrow. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Did you end up using the reco head that you had? Or did you just swap the whole motor over?
