I had converted my brakes over to the VT ones a few months ago and I was telling my insurance company (Shannons) about them as a modification and the bloke from Shannons suggested I may need an engineers certificate for that mod. Does anyone know?
Cheers!!
I was under the impression that the kits used when upgrading were already certified.
The Holden dealerships highly recommend this kit and sell it so surely they would of sorted out the legalities of it otherwise, how can they sell it.
It's not like your brakes are an accessory like a BOV.
The Holden dealership in Ballarat sell the adapter hub too, thats why I was a bit confused.
I could make a few phone calls to the local engineers if you like, I should have some answers for you tomorrow?
No probs matey, I phoned Bisitechniks Pty Ltd in Ballarat (Yes my spelling is correct :P)
They are do Vehicle Design and Certification, National Heavy Vehicle Accredition.
They said they'd get back to me tomorrow, cause the head bloke was out testing cars.
Their number was (03) 53 39 67 77 just in case you have any further questions.
But I'll pass on whatever they tell me.
Yeah the VT set up is very good "IF" you have the 1" MCyl, and booster ratio set up right, or a VT Master Cyl/Booster modified to fit.(The booster just needs a new hole drilled i think)
what if you only have the standard NA master cylinder and booster? Im thinking about doing the conversion to VT brakes from bog stock NA brakes. I was quoted $670 to get my brakes fixed back to standard NA so I thought why not go VT. But if you need to do the MC and booster is it still worth it?
I'm going to put a modified VT booster/master cyl on my VL cause the pedal feel is not great atm. The VT brakes still work well with 1" M/C and vl booster, just you have to push hard on the pedal.
What you'd be really better off doing is getting a set of DBA Gold VN SV5000 (330mm) slotted and drilled rotors and calipers. Obviously you'd need the 1" master but you'd not have any problems with hub conversions and you'd have the option of going 2 or 4 piston calipers

have u looked into this much? what needs to be done to fit em.
very interested!!!
Yeah, cebco or race brakes have the kit for around $550.
or get s/h and get the booster modified(about $60) and get some adapters for the lines and thats it! VT brakes in a 300kg lighter car should be nice.
yea, just picked up my brakes then.
got slotted rotors (***n HUGE mofos!!), new pads, callipers, ADR approved braided lines, adaptor hubs, and bearings all for $500.
spoke with the guy he said the booster dsnt do much, they are all the same, and a 1" master cylinder is a 1" master cylinder. the ones off a VT do the same thing, just are mounted a slight bit different, hence having to modify **** to fit the vt booster and master cyl to a vl. if you have to press hard then chances are ur master cylinder is rooted - he said something bout half of them having a spring put around the wrong way or sum****...
i'll be lookin for a new 1" master cyl. he does them for 185, but will find out trade price from repco.
chris.
Ha ha, The VT Master is a 1.25" (from memory) not 1'' !
Booster doesn't do much ? Ok let us know when you have experienced it for yourself, not from the mouth of the "salesman"
I don't think the VT M/cyl would be alot better than the 1" vl one but reason you would put the VT m/cyl on is because the VL m/cyl wont fit the VT booster.
As far as my 1'' master go's, i got it off the same guy...
